Where is King Crimson?!?

How about some HELLYEAH??? They're better than half of the bands on this list. They have members from Pantera, Damageplan, and Rebel Meets Rebel. Nothingface. And Mudvayne.

How about Five Finger Death Punch?? They've got dudes from W.A.S.P., Alice Cooper, and Motograter.

It seems that this list was created with loose cards, somebody dropped them and were put together backwards or something...

Trans-Siberian Orchestra anyone?

Transatlantic is probably one of the more talented supergroups but are completely ignored because they are a Prog band, Ughhh. Too bad so many people miss out on a whole lot of shear talent. Look for a new super group, with Mike portnoy, Dave LaRue, Steve Morse and Neil Morse called Flying Colors Disc due out in March and should be AWESOME!

You broke your own rules. Repeatedly. "4. A supergroup cannot be formed by a well-known musician joining a pre-existing band -- no Van Hagar."

1. Temple of the Dog was Pearl Jam + Chris Cornell.
2. CSNY was already CSN before Y joined, and
3. Audioslave was the most blatant. That was RATM with a new singer.

By those standards, Van Hagar qualifies and blows them ALL away. What a joke. If you make a rule, stick to it!!!!!

just created an account to say the same thing. Wow, guys.

Brilliant list.

Though my personal favorite band on the list is Chickenfoot, the collection of star power grouped together in those other bands is staggering.

You all did an amazing job with this list!

Thanks for all your efforts with these lists, lessons, gear reviews, tabs all for only $1 per issue INCLUDING POSTAGE right on my doorstep.

By far the most impressive deal in the free market.

Let me clarify...the foot should be higher on the list and Velvet Revolver shouldn't be listed. Scott (Dope head) Weiland ruined what could have been a great band.

kody2727

Chickendickless shouldn't have even come into existence
Velvet revolver blew chunks because of slashs inability to write good riffs. Scott weiland was the only good part about that band and without the dope you would never have baddass timeless STP songs so give credit where it's due.

I see they took down my post and corrected the Down mistake. Also to the supernaut: Down is not a "reverse supergroup." C.O.C., Pantera, and Crowbar were all around prior to Down. In fact, C.O.C. was around before Pepper Keenan even joined them.

where is rush? in many circles 3 of the greatest musicians in the world. about the only one in the right place is cream.

Now this would be the greatest supergroup:
Bass: Gene Simmons
Rythm Guitar: Dave Mustaine
Lead Guitar: Yngwie Malmsteen
Drums: Lars Ulrich
Vocals: Axl Rose
What would their name be?

I think you should be old enough to have hair on your nuts before being allowed to comment on here. I think the GW guys put together a great list!

avatar

thesupernaut

down was a band before c.o.c., pantera, or crowbar were bands. they're pretty much a reverse supergroup. chickenfoot is an awful waste of chad and joe's time.

Zeppelin?
The Raconteurs?
The Who?
The Stones with Ron Wood?
Derek & the Dominoes?
The Police?
Fistful of Mercy?

come on man..

Totally agree with you on DEREK & T.D.... This list should be ordered by supergroups we would love to hear new music from....Though I am retro by nature, I dont need to hear anything new from BCC or Chickenfoot......BUT I would love to hear "new" music from CREAM!!!.. Is Ginger Baker still alive?...

avatar

gibsonkid1993

agreed. this list is downright terrible... first of all, chickenfoot is an absolute joke. almost as big of a joke as van halen lately... black country communion should've been way higher on the list, same with temple of the dog and the highwaymen.

velvet revolver at #5 was also a joke. that band didnt put out a single good song. after guns and roses slash hasnt put out anything decent until his solo album 2 years ago....

This is why I don't subscribe to GW anymore...The guitar world staff and the writers Josh Hart and Damian Fanelli didn't do a lot of those bands justice. As soon as I saw Chickenfoot at 20 I knew right away that there wasn't a lot of "intelligent" life at GW. Cream at #1 was probably the only correct selection on the list. I'm still sadden by the lack of research that GW has shown over the years...

You're right, Chickenfoot shouldn't be on there at all.
