50 Great Albums Celebrating Their 20th Anniversary in 2011
1991 to 2011: We remember the great albums that are turning 20 this year.
Just how good was 1991 for music? Think about this: Nevermind and Blood Sugar Sex Magik came out on the same day. So did Use Your Illusion and No More Tears.
It also was a polarizing year for music fans. Some embraced the apparent end of hair metal and the onslaught of amazing music coming from America's Pacific-Northwest.
For others, 1991 signaled the "death of metal" — although judging by stellar releases from Death, Suffocation, Metallica and Sepultura, it would appear some bands didn't get the memo.
If blues was your thing, you probably just sat back and enjoyed B.B. King's Live at the Apollo, The Fabulous Thunderbirds' Walk that Walk, Talk that Talk and the first posthumous Stevie Ray Vaughan release, The Sky Is Crying.
Whatever your tastes, most will agree that '91 was a tremendous year for music. That's why we've assembled this list of 50 now-classic albums that will be celebrating their 20th anniversaries this year.

I still have some of those albums on cassette, and some of them are still among my favourite albums (I still listen to stuff I got or heard when I was a pre-teen). 1991 was a huge year for groundbreaking albums, they should have increased it to 100 albums celebrating their anniversary.

How 'bout Michael Jackson's Dangerous and R.E.M's Out of Time? Both are great albums!

Primal Scream's Screamadelica should be on there. If this were in the UK it would be like the #1 album of '91.
But I can't believe it's been 20 years since BSSM by RHCP and STSOC by Primus. I had just gotten my drivers license that summer and I was cranking those tapes in my first car that winter. Along with Efil4zaggin by NWA (another classic IMO)

Where the Hell was "Dirt" by Alice In Chains & "Out Of Time" by REM. Those also changed music big time that year.

"Dirt" came out in 1992, otherwise it would definitely have been included.

I agree AIC's "Dirt" would HAVE to be included...and I'm fairly certain it would be if not for the fact it was released in '92 and not '91. "Out Of Time" is classic, too, but I guess they can't include them all.
