If you want to get a jump on the June downloads, I posted them to Hotfile again...remember, you have to space out your downloads.

Really?? No more poster?? And I just sent an e-mail recently saying that you guys are doing a good job and applauding your magazine. After taking away the CD I was okay with having to go online to see the videos. I get it, its the digital age. You added the poster and I thought it was great cuz I like to see the famous peoples guitars and have been framing them and putting them up in my music room. Now you are taking those away too?? I mean really how much more can it cost to include the poster?? Come on...hell I'd even pay the extra couple cents that it would cost. Very unhappy about this. Overall I'm happy with the rest of the magazine. Please go back to including the posters with famous guitars. Pretty please with a cherry on top. Thanks

If I told you how much it actually cost to keep the poster in every issue, you'd be pretty surprised...but we're not ending the poster outright. It'll come and go depending on the finances of that issue. There's a poster in the June issue and possibly one in July, but I'm unsure about anything beyond that.

No,I still think GW is a great mag..The blame lies with their parent company "Future Publishing"..Jeff Kitts should be applauded for taking the time, and hosting the files himself.Shows he cares about the readers..At least GW has video available..If you bought let's say "Guitar Techniques" magazine digitally, you are screwed for any downloadable supplements for their lessons, and they are totally indifferent to not offering it.

avatar

JeffKitts

For what it's worth, I don't know if "blame" is the right word in these situations. Truth is, everyone is doing their best to survive in a very difficult time...I'm sure you've all noticed things like newsstands and bookstores going out of business all across the country, and you have to appreciate how much that affects a print-publishing operation like Guitar World. While tons of other magazines have had to close their doors over the years, we're still here...and sometimes the only way to get through the lean times is to cut corners or tighten a few belts.

As much as we all want to give our readers the best of everything, everyone needs to understand how costly everything is...sometimes it's financial cost, sometimes it's the cost something has on the staff, etc.

And yes, we've had a few hiccups as we transition to the new parent company (NewBay)...but, aside from the video download issue, for the most part I think we've done a decent job delivering things to our readers and site visitors.

For those who stand by us, thanks for the support! We wouldn't still be here without you guys.

fucked once again. i will let my subscription expire. there is a lot of guitar content on the internet which i will use. guitar world has become a ripoff.

avatar

zappa73

Really? It's $1 per issue delivered with a subscription.

You don't think with the interviews, lessons, guitar tabs, gear reviews that it's worth $1?

Thanks for the downloads Dude!

Sorry for all this, guys...it's all just corporate red tape since we were acquired by NewBay Media a few months ago (without getting into it all, our file-hosting operation was tied to Future, so that bit the dust in the acquisition). We're just trying to figure out the best solution...and a lot of our people were out all last week at the Golden Gods awards show in LA, so we weren't able to address it again until this week.

In any event, I've put the files on Hotfile as a temporary solution...you'll have to space out your downloads, and hopefully enough people can download them before the downloads get suspended (it's just a free Hotfile account, not Premium).

Give it a try, hopefully it'll work for most of you. First one is the gear reviews, other two are the lesson.

Jeff,

Thank you for putting these files on hotfile.

I am quick to criticize when things are done poorly so I wanted to take a moment to note when you go out of your way to make your customers happy. It is greatly appreciated.

Any chance we can get the April files on hotfile?

Thanks again.

What's the big deal deal about putting the videos together for an easy download for us, give me the files and I'll host them. Jesus...

avatar

mikeyesfan

Everybody on here is upset about the download content being taken away, so what I say and others is please put the CD back in the magazine. I know inflation is making things cost more just charge us a little more like instead of $7.99 make it $9.99. I don’t know about others here, but you used to have things on CD on how to play the songs in the back of the magazine to bring it back please. We all know who to blame for the price hike in the next issues the current Presidential administration with gas prices going up and everything else due to it.

Looks like JeffKitts and the rest of the GW/Future Publishing staff have gone into hiding. I guess that was the only option they had left after smoke screening their subscribers with BS about file hosting problems and such.

So GW lies for a month and then when it is obvious they were lying they just go into hiding and refuse to make a comment on their own forums? What class. No way will I waste one more penny on this magazine. I'll be recommending the same to all my musician friends as well.

Great job Future Publishing. You have ruined yet another guitar magazine and are well on your way to running it into the ground.

avatar

gscrain70

So they castrate the CD's, the downloads, the poster (not to mention Guitar One). Well at least they still have money to pay for models posing with guitars. Cause EVERYONE goes to GuitarWorld for their porn.. I'm glad those folks at Future know how to run a mag.

tarpit

Downloads +1 That way I can keep these videos around for years to revisit like I can with the old CD era issues.

General Klinger

Some of the videos are available on GW's Youtube channel.

I still like to read all the articles but I agree I was perfectly happy with the cd I hate the new format it sucks. Go back to the cd please!!!!!

avatar

schenker6868

I recieved a subscription for my B-Day. I had to just smile and say cool, thanks. I wonder if I can cancel it without her finding out?

avatar

CT_Eagle

Has there been a change in policy? Is GW no longer providing download links for videos? I hope that is not the case. I really like being able to watch the videos without being connected to the internet.

Would someone from GW kindly post an update on the status of the video downloads? An update is not much too much to ask for.

avatar

bubbakorshka

Apparently it is. We are closing in on two weeks without having heard anything from the "fine folks" at GW and Future Publishing. It is looking like they are setting up to no longer offer DLs and even the links to older DLs are broken.

I certainly hope I am wrong, but we are hearing a whole lot of nothing from GW. I even offered to send in some DVDs to have them burn me some discs (LOL) ... no reply :-( I guess they are cutting costs, again.

avatar

Force3fangwo

Did anyone else notice a good thing?
The WORTHLESS POSTER is gone from the May Issue.
Now where is the DOWNLOAD link?
Also where are the previous months links?
This is exactly why we need the CD.

avatar

oztinhix

The "ONLINE CONTENTS" section has been removed from the MAY 2012 issue. It is not a "file hosting" problem we are facing. That was just a smoke screen.

avatar

bubbakorshka

I agree. "Online Contents" section gone; poster now gone ( no big loss, but that was supposed to be compensation for the end of the CD); no links for April and May; AND all the links back through July 2011 (when this whole fiasco started) are now broken. The file hosting claim was just a stall tactic. Guitar World and Future Publishing are cutting corners yet again at the expense of their subscribers. With this kind of crap going on I will not be surprised to see GW go the way of many other guitar mags over the past few years. Way to screw up a good thing Future Publishing!

avatar

Sukisyn

i agree. Either they put the download links for the video back up or reinstate the CDs or I will not be renewing my subscription.

avatar

jackdragbean

Same here. It's one of the reasons that I subscribed.

avatar

oztinhix

I'm with you. I will not renew my subscription. I have been putting up with this crap since when I was a GuitarOne subscriber. GuitarOne went from download to CD and then back to download, and then GuitarOne was dumped by Future US when it was bought out and my subscription automatically switched to GuitarWorld which was CD at the time and I had to pay a fee to "go back to CD", and then it went to download, and now, who knows what will happen next. I am tired of paying for a product when I don't know what form it will be in!

avatar

bubbakorshka

And with sites like Ultimate-Guitar and programs like Guitar Pro (not to mention ALL the other musical resources on the net), I don't see how GW can pull stunts like this and hope to continue to exist. Unless there are major changes I see no sense in renewing my subscription once it finally expires. They've lost yet another LONG time subscriber in me.

avatar

ameba

It's time for Jeff to "Grow a pair" and demand this gets fixed or stop spoon feeding us all the file hosting issue crap and tell us the truth of what's going on here! File hosting issues do not take two months to fix unless his hands are being tied by corporate..

avatar

Force3fangwo

Okay where is the download link????
You know this is way past stupid.
Why can't you guys fix this?
Can't you at least give some explanation???
How would you guys like getting this kind of service?
Oh yeah you don't even read this do you!

avatar

schenker6868

sure would have liked to have seen "At The Station" transcribed, since 'Lifes Been Good" has been transcribed before.

avatar

jdelgado1977

C´mon !!!!! Full downloads please....

avatar

bubbakorshka

Really? No DLs again?!?! Seriously, put up DLs for May (AND April) and please fix the DL links for the issues going back to July of 2011 (when you made the clever decision to axe the CDs).

Please do this, I think we have been very patient. A link to each months "Entire Files" DL would be much appreciated.

Thank You

avatar

sloppyfingers

^ yeah, but you have to remember that GW is now being run by Future Publishing..The same geniuses that proudly launched digital versions of their other Guitar magazines without nary a sign of the (much relied on) cd in download format..I'm afraid with those clowns from the other side of the pond at the healm, GW will only get worse.

avatar

gscrain70

So again no downloads available?!? I was still looking for the April dloads. The CDs were one of my favorite parts of the issue, but it is such a hassle to watch clicking links, not to mention they disappear after a couple months. This magazine has become such a disappointment. There are so many GOOD people putting the mag together, but it seems that 'Corporate' only makes stupid changes one after another and tries their hardest to piss off existing subscribers.

avatar

ameba

While your at it, how about April's full downloads?????????????????

Still Waiting.....

joey5150
