You’ve seen Jonathan Jackson. He’s that guy that seemed like kind of a jerk in season one but turned out to be a good guy in season two. What am I talking about? He appears as Avery Barkley on the hit TV series Nashville. But the cool thing about Jackson, and pretty much all of the talent on that show, is that they are all really and truly amazing musicians as well as great actors.
We recently caught up with Chicago’s Moonrise Nation for an exclusive interview. Comprised of seventeen-year-old Arden Bee (vocals/piano), her older sister Eva (cello/bass), and Emma McCall (guitar/percussion), the trio blends keen musicianship and delicate harmonies into their own brand of folk-pop.
In this video series, Acoustic Natino editor Laura B. Whitmore discusses the new Expression System 2 pickup design with Taylor Guitars' David Hosler. As the successor to Taylor’s Expression System 1 which was introduced in 2003, the ES2 is a brand new innovation that faithfully conveys the voice of Taylor instruments. For decades, piezo-electric transducers have been positioned under the saddle of a guitar, based on the long-held belief that the string and top vibration cause the saddle to “bounce” up and down.
Currently building a devoted fanbase in the US, alternative rocker Jesse Clegg is a full-fledged star in his home country of South Africa. As the son of iconic Afro-pop musician Johnny Clegg, he was primed to live the life of a career musician, and has already toured much of the world. After the widespread acclaim of his first album, 2008’s When I Wake Up, his music caught the attention of three-time Grammy-winning producer David Bottrill (Muse, Tool, Placebo).
If there’s one new album you should listen to this year, LP’s Forever For Now is it. I’m not just saying that because several of its amazingly well-written, hooky songs are forever stuck in head. It’s so much more. The gorgeous production with just enough quirky bits left into the polished perfection. The fabulous musicianship, including most especially the dazzlingly talented LP herself. We’re talking powerful vocals, super solid ukulele riffs, plus whistling, yodelly do-dos, big drums, hand claps and about a million other things.
What do you do when you're the co-founder of an iconic guitar brand but you have no successor? Check out this interview in celebration of Taylor's 40th anniversary as we talk about what Bob Taylor did in that exact situation!
It's been 40 years since Taylor started making guitars. That's quite a milestone. From a small shop in Southern California to a large factory hand creating some of the most beautiful looking and sounding guitars out there, Taylor has not only survived, but thrived.
We recently had the privilege of sitting down with renowned guitarist, songwriter, and co-founder of seminal rock act The Black Crowes, Rich Robinson. A superb musician and a great guy to chat with, we spent a few minutes talking about his upcoming solo release, The Ceaseless Sight, due out June 3 on The End Records.
Last year multi-platinum band the Goo Goo Dolls released Magnetic, their 10th studio album. The collection of masterfully written songs debuted in the top ten, charting strongly with singles like the red-hot “Come to Me.” This year the band decided to mix things up with an acoustic tour titled The Otis Midnight Sessions. Instead of pairing things down, this tour found them on stage with a wide range of fabulous acoustic musicians.
