Brooklyn based blues and roots man The Bones of J.R. Jones debut full length Dark was the Yearling is out today worldwide. The Bones of J.R. Jones is the early-twentieth-century bluesman persona of Brooklyn’s Jonathon Linaberry. Linaberry’s road into music started in the hardcore punk scene in upstate New York where he grew up. His musical landscape took a huge shift after being gifted a collection of records called "American Roots Music" by his father.
Jordan Lee's Mutual Benefit debuted a new video for "Let's Play / Statue of a Man" this morning. Directed by Stefan Grabrowski, the video was shot over the span of 6 months in and around Boston using mostly analog equipment and some experimental developing techniques. The resulting images have a frenetic, but also organic quality to them evoking the very personal and soul-searching nature of the song.
Revered roots music troubadour Seth Walker recently took up residency in New Orleans. Upon relocating to the Big Easy, the North Carolina-native completed his rounds of the Holy Trinity of southern U.S. music cities. His journey began in Austin where he fast became a staple of the Texas blues scene. He’d later shuffle off to Nashville where he’d absorb the cosmopolitan twang of its storytelling tradition.
Human Potential is the solo project of Andrew Becker; formerly the drummer for Dischord Records’ band, Medications and nefarious Brooklyn outfit, Screens. After his latter group unceremoniously imploded in the summer of 2011, Becker consulted a high end, spiritual assassin who foretold a life just above the poverty line if he attempted to transpose the Bee Gees’ “1st” into an aural nightscape of loss, regret and heartache. Needless to say, Becker was intrigued.
Christopher Denny is excited to announce that he has confirmed a summer tour with Strand Of Oaks, in addition to previously announced headlining dates. The lengthy North American tour kicks off on August 7 in Boston, and will hit major markets throughout the US and Canada, culminating in Philadelphia on September 19. This tour will support Denny's forthcoming sophomore album, If The Roses Don't Kill Us, out August 5, which was was produced by Grammy winner Dave Sanger (Asleep At The Wheel).
