Tabs ! We want guitar tabs and an index ! The current tab offering is pathetic and now that the CD is gone Guitar World magazine is only useful to stem the rectal bleeding subscribers experienced from being screwed.

can't view many of the videos.
where's my cd refund ?

Ok, no Tab section any more. Guitar World Digital terminated. I can't imagine what's next. If you're cutting for financial reasons....fine. If you are trying to find the best offering for your customers and fans, then please stop offering content and then taking it away. I am looking at the site as it exists now and its really confusing. Kind of reminds me of the old Alta Vista search engine years ago. Damn confusing!

Way too many broken links around the site, and whoever is hosting your video can't handle streaming. If you are going to stick in video ads, limit them to 5 seconds, especially if it is going to be the same ad across multiple videos.

Guitar World was already 3 years behind with its CD-rom technology, and now that 3 years have passed since video streaming became efficient, Guitar World is once again playing catch up. And once again, being too cheap about it.

(Forget the tabs, boys and girls. Today's bands must leverage every potential revenue stream, and licensing tab has become a major source of income.)

Just my luck, was going to search the "Tab's" for "The World i Know" by Collective Soul. This has always been the best dam place to find acurate Tabs, now!!!!AW F**K IT.Found a lot of tabs on other sites but i;m thinking that the Guitar has alternate tuning.Anyone know for sure?It just don't sound right in standard tuning.Almost sounds like the tuning in the Goo Goo Dolls song Name.....And i just re-upped my subscription.

I am logged into GW & when I go to the ARTISTS menu, click on the letter 'G' and select GREEN DAY, I get an error message stating 'ACCESS DENIED', 'You are not authorized to access this page'. The direct URL is: http://www.guitarworld.com/green-day

I don't know if the site is bunked or it is just my machine. I am able to access all the other artists just fine. I think there is a user-rights issue with the Green Day folder on the server.

Another question I have is in regard to song transcriptions. I have been a mag subscriber for a while now and was looking for a comprehensive listing (perhaps electronic or an online index) of issue #s and their corresponding song transcriptions. I cannot find anything on the site and I have a mountain of GW magazines + CDs. I thought something like that had existed at one time. I've since purchased 'The Complete History of Guitar World' and it will be delivered soon in hopes that this book may contain something like that.

cdoyle

Thanks for the heads up about the Green Day artist page, it should be fixed now.

Good stuff!! Thanks for that!!

Erm, can someone from GW (Jeff K maybe? - please?) provide some more explanation please as to why tabs.guitarworld.com has been dumped? That was an amazing resource. Especially as so many were user submitted...

avatar

ChrisDude89

Yeah, WTF happened to the forums?

avatar

hawkofaces

You really shouldn't have gotten rid of the forum. I got so much help and information from different people, especially my friend skylark44. He helped me with finding parts for my guitar I'm building, and tips on how to adjust my guitar and amp to fit my style. I'm just 16 and I didn't know how to find parts for a guitar. I don't know how to contact him because I met him on the forum, he lives in another state, and he never gave me another way to contact him. You took a friend, and a future lutherie business partner. So please put the forum back on the site, because you took away the only way for some people to truly learn about guitar away from them.

I hope all goes well with the new GW site & change. So far I like it also and I am sure it will only get better.
The best of luck to yous all at GW.

I liked the Forums as continuous as they could become. They where a place to go and have fun, butt Egos and find out things on guirarists besides there favorite products and what they thought of them. but interact and have fun, or not. I miss the pit. So good luck and thank you for letting Me Have a lot of fun in the past. The pit is dead. long live the pit. Ralph

I really like the new website. I like the current updates, the disc content on the site, and the Quick Licks lessons etc. As far as the forum goes, I could care less. Nice job guys!

Where's the tabs? Where's the forums? i'm all for change but why would you take away the best things on your website? please return the tabs and forum.

avatar

good job guys no forums or tabs...this site is now
shit

avatar

Wow, no tabs -- another reason the new Guitar World sucks! It was bad enough that they screwed those of us who paid in advance for CDs with the magazine then discontinued them.

The tabs were the only reason I used the website.

avatar

stormsdad

Tabs are the biggest reason i use guitarworld.com. They're the biggest reason i started buying guitar world magazine all those years ago when i started playing. No more tabs is a HUGE disappointment. Please bring them back!

I love the changes in the magazine, and the website. I like how the videos are all right here on the site as well. I also hope the poster will be something we can look forward too every issue. I think also that we should get more tabs, and lessons. That's the whole reason why I buy the mgazine every month is for the tabs, and lessons. But every month there's always a tab I dont want or is a tab that has been done WAY too much. How about a tab from artists we don't get very often. I'm a 90's rock kina guy so how about a tab from bands like Rage Against The Machine (please not Bulls On Parade) or Sonic Youth or Tool (Not Schism either). Now in my opinion Rage's Tom Morello, Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo, and Tool's Adam Jones are all in opinion the most under-rated guitarists. Now remember you haters that this is MY opinion everybody may have their own opinion, but this is mine. I mean seriously Adam Jones is my main guitar influence and the last time he was on a cover in GW was the April 2009 issue with him and Kirk Hammett on the cover. The tab was also Schism. I hate how when GW tabs a bands song that how they most of the time post either their most famous song, or the song everybody knows by that band. Those two things define the tabbing of Schism. If your going to tab a good Tool song why don't you tab Parabol/Parabola, Aenima, Vicarious, Jambi, Prison Sex, or Lateralus. All of those are amazing Tool songs. Thanks for reading my 2 cents, and hope any of this stuff is considered.

I like the clean look of the new website format, but the management of it doesn't seem to be with the times. Just my two cents on where I think GW should be at now that it is 2011.

1. Ditch the hard copy magazine format and all the "disc" stuff sold in stores already. It's too limiting in this day and age to be doing that and be monthly. It worked in the old days, but it seems to be wasted energy now to treat this website as a support mechanism for the physical magazine. Information moves at a rapid pace nowadays, and GW would be much stronger if they migrated 100% to this website to keep the information flow coming in non-stop and on a daily basis like other websites in other industries do. If you have to move to a blog-style format to accommodate that idea, it would probably make life easier on your writers. And I don't think your advertising partners would mind one bit. In fact, I think they would be excited to support the website more than the magazine.

2. Tabs. This should be a major feature. It's something that no other medium can utilize, and be a powerful incentive for readers to keep coming back. I can imagine that the scope of maintaining tab archives old and new would be a massive undertaking, but again I can see this being a HUGE factor in the success of this GW website.

3. Artist Galleries. I think GW should have a gallery section that could blow the old magazine poster format out of the water. You could even bring in archived poster images from over the years. Words cannot express the sheer value if this was done for readers.

4. Video clips. Again, just like other websites do, present clips of all sorts. Interviews, music videos, etc like you've been doing but bring it up a notch or two.

5. Forums. Yeah, I think you definitely need to provide some sort of outlet for your readers to express their thoughts on anything and everything guitar. Some websites have one or two moderators hired to operate the whole thing. If you create the resources, hell you could even bring in guest guitarists for a Q&A event. People love that stuff. Why? Because it is awesome!

6. Maybe I'm not that familiar with the website yet, but as of now I don't see specific pages dedicated to certain styles of music. I mean, if you're a metal guy, there needs to be a metal section, Same with Country, Blues, etc.

The GW website of course has lots of potential, and hopefully the above will help spark some ideas. I would love to see the GW website be the ultimate badass resource for guitarists everywhere regardless of their playing style.

I paid in advance (up through Jan 2013) for a subscription with the CD. Now, what I paid extra for is available to everyone online, even those who have not paid any extra $$. What extra's do those of us who paid the extra $$ for the CD get now? From what I can tell, nothing. There really should be some sort of reimbursement for those of us who pre-pad the extra $$ for the magazine subscription with CD. Either a refund or subscription extension based on how far ahead we pre-paid for "extras" we are no longer receiving.

I find it hard to believe that GW did not foresee this kind of reaction coming from it's CD subscribers and make some kind of offer beforehand. Just taking our extra $$ and saying "it's new and improved because it's online" is insulting. It feels like you hoped noone would notice. Anyway, many of us have and are wondering now what our extra $$ have gotten us, because right now it looks to me like I paid extra $$ for my subsription for July 2011 through Jan 2013 and nothing to show for that extra investment.

Please tell me you guys are going to rectify this situation.

What does GW staff and our Federal Government have in common? They dont know that change is not what the people want, over the last couple years if someone says we are changing something, BAD,BAD things are about to happen and we are about to get stuff taken away. Cant believe you guys screwed this magazine up!!!! PUT EVERYTHING BACK THE WAY IT WAS!!!!!!

avatar

Dang man!! Some peeps just can't accept change! Hey newsflash dude!! The only thing that's constant IS change!! I just so happen to like the changes. All the peeps involved in a big overhaul like this deserve credit dude!! Computer programming is'nt easy!! There's so much going on here, it's great!! Roll with it Dude!!

RE video content ... I would strongly recommend making the content available for download for subscribers and making the content iphone and ipad friendly. These are devices that GW makes revenue off of with Lick of the Day / Tab Toolkit, etc. Why aren't you supporting compatible video content for these devices?

BRING BACK THE FORUMS!

avatar

Chaosnut123

dfanelli - I think overall this is an improvement over the Leapin brains player, which was slow loading and made practicing very dreadful.

Will you guys consider making the NEW column lesson/In Deep videos downloadable?

It's a bear to practice with streaming video (particularly the NEW video format). It would also make lesson indexing easier for users to go back to. Thanks in advance.

will i be able to view the videos after the month is over? and what about the extra money for the subscription?

avatar

bubbakorshka

This is a good point! I paid ahead for over a year and a half (up through Jan 2013) for the subscription with CD. That cost me extra $$ to pay ahead for the CD's and now all of us who did so are now getting nothing more than those who paid for their subscription with no CD. Personally I think GW should either refund the difference or extend the subscriptions according to how far ahead people subscribed.

quipfan

That was my thinking exactly. I paid extra for the DVD content only to find out it was going to be discontinued. I feel GW needs to compensate those who paid for the DVD content.

avatar

sharksfan

I just renewed - with CD for 2 years. I am very disappointed that the CD is gone. Add to that the fact that the web content does not appear to be download friendly.

Please re-consider either reinstating the CDs or compensating those of us who purchased something, but are now getting much less.

Thank you for your time.

avatar

bubbakorshka

I agree 100%. I am really upset about this. I have another year and a half (up through Jan 2013) on my subscription. I paid extra for the CD and now I get screwed over. Actually, everyone who paid for the CD subscription is getting the shaft really because now those who paid for no disc are getting the exact same subscription as those of us who paid extra.

GW, please extend our subscriptions accordingly or reimburse us.

2-words: Tab Index

avatar

potential

The Tab Index....VERY important to me, having mags from way back.

Options?? Perhaps the old index could be made available, and we could save that list to our own computers...?

thanks

avatar

rjim

I guess I'm not clear on the future of the disc in the magazine, for which I paid extra in my subscription. Are the contents now free online with every issue? What are the subscribers who paid extra for the disc now getting for their extra money?
Thanks.

avatar

bubbakorshka

So far, from what I can tell. Those of us who paid extra for the disc are getting nothing for that extra money. Some of us are even pre-paid way ahead (Jan 2013 for me) and we are getting nothing for the extra $$ we paid. I don't think GW thought this through very well if they didn't expect their CD subscribers to be upset about this.

GW should reimburse CD subscribers in some way; either monetary or by extending their subscription according to how far in advance they pre-paid for something extra they are not getting anymore.

avatar

thewrabbit

What no tabs??? Guess I'll be cancelling my subscription...
Plus the fact I've not received my last 2 issues in the mail..
Whats up with you guys????

avatar

I, like most of the others posting here, really miss the tabs. Also, like most of the others, I don't do Facebook and as far as I can see, never will. I have been a subscriber to the magazine for a few years now and even bought a subscription for a friend for Christmas. I have devoured the last few magazines. They have been great. But decisions like the one to change the site really worry me. I'm all for change when needed, but it wasn't broken and didn't need to be fixed (my opinion, not Gospel). Those are the kinds of decisions that lead to no magazine, only a website. I hope to never see that. Thanks for listening and by the way, I really miss the tabs.. a bunch.
