Listen to "Hit & Run Revisited".

I was looking for Paz lenchatin, and was dissapointed not to see her, what an amazing musician. I also want to give a big recommendation to Julie Slick as well, her bass playing is astounding, agressive and still musical.

Laura B. Whitmore

OK, they are both on my list to check out. Thanks!

Let's not forget Julie Slick of The Adrian Belew Power Trio or Gail Ann Dorsey of David Bowie fame (no pun intended)

Thanks for the ideas. I think part two is definitely in order!

Hey how about :

1. Kathy Valentine - The Go-go's
2. Janice Marie Johnson - A Taste Of Honey (that bass line in Boogie Oogie Oogie is a bona fide classic)
3. Carole Kaye - Wrecking Crew

Great bass players. Beautiful people too!

In the San Francisco area - Ruth Davies gets my vote for both beauty and prowess on the bass. Stunning jazz player!!

DEFINITELY CHECK HER OUT !!!
BTW, I like the fact you respond to all the feedback. Considerate of you.

Laura, are you nuts? You left out Carol Kaye? Carol has played on over 1000 top ten songs. She played guitar on La bamba with Ritchie Valens. She has done more for women and bass and guitar than any woman in history. She is still making records, teaching and sometimes playing live. You are grossly remiss for leaving her off of your list.

While it's true that I might be nuts, I'm fully aware that there are tons more great female bass players that are not on this list. So thanks for the heads up and I'm thinking that part two might be in order!
