Bent Out of Shape: An Introduction to Improvisation for Rock and Metal Guitarists

Great blog!

In most metal guitar duos, you often find one player excels more in improvisation, while the other often composes the solos (e.g. Dave Murray improvises while Adrian Smith composes his solos, Glenn Tipton composes and K.K Downing improvises more) which adds to the guitarists' uniqueness from each other.

When soloing, I may come up with two or more key licks/melodies, and link them through improvisation. I agree that lead playing is about expression and not just technical display.
