Wise words definitely. Its important to challenge yourself in order to develop as a player long term. This year I challenge myself to be more creative on a regular and consistent basis, both musically and lyrically, and to write something new at least once every week.

I agree with the tv advice. Having it on will prevent your brain from registering your musical progress and development through unnecessary distraction.

Damn, now I'm going to have to buy a TV just so I can turn it off.

Good ideas, all of them.

Although I'm surprised to hear that people would have the TV on while practicing… I'm sure it's true, but this is a freakin' no-brainer. To me it's like saying, "Don't stick your hand in the garbage disposal while it's running."

The human brain does NOT multitask, no matter how "special" or "superhuman" or "gifted" you think you are. Tough to hear, get used to it.
