Friggin Corgan "reunited" Smashing Pumpkins WITHOUT using ANY actual members of the damn band. At least Soundgarden got the same 4 amazing guys together.
Smashing Pumpkins today has Billy and a whole new lineup. Their new drummer wasn't even born when GISH was first released.
No D'arcy, No James, & NO Jimmie. That's not reuniting for the "sake of ART"... If so call it something different (or don't talk shit) If you're travelling around the country cranking out the awesome songs from Pumpkins in the 90's and only Billy is in the band? That's called... BILLY CORGAN NEEDS TO EARN A LIVING AND MAKING NEW RECORDS JUST DOESN'T PAY THE BILLS ANYMORE SO simply re-naming Corgan's band the Smashing Pumpkins and playing Pumpkins covers every night actually puts peeps in the room.
Little Billy.. we all do something for the money. But if you're a whore... it's not good etiquette to call out & talk shit about the other hookers. You bitches are still working the same streets per se.
Corgan always was a whiner... at least back then he wrote better songs.

He's just trying to get exposure due to being irrelevant. Guess we are providing it.....

I came to read why Ralph Macchio was in the band.

fpesqu

There have been other cases in the past where band reunited, did a tour and make money and people happy... what's wrong with that? Are those bands supposed to do benefit concerts or what?? Where is the common sense on this stupid statements... GW seems to cover Billy a lot since 1993... please stop and put more Soundgarden instead.

My statement is based on the headline of this article....

avatar

loral

Wait a minute....

isn't that why "THE Smashing Pumpkins" reunited?? for money??

Surely it wasn't for art. I'm sure you can't get them to play for free for a benefit or anything.

Why is no one posting their theory on why "THE Smashing Pumpkins" reunited???

Actually, Billy Corgan *used* to be in a band called "THE Smashing Pumpkins", but he retired (like Garth Brooks, and countless others that miss the spotlight, they come back like "here I am again").

Actually 2: Bill Corgan is "A Dick" (see resemblance in hair style)

Actually 3: "THE Smashing Pumpkins" only got famous when music offered nothing, and the target audience was seeking music and his sounded somewhat familiar.

Acutally 4: "The target audience" should have just bought some old Alice Cooper records, which is all "Billy Corgan" ( A Dick ) tried to sing like.

Now I must give credit where it's due. Corgan once was on top of his game. Gish, Siamese Dream, & the double record were all really great Smashing Pumpkins records that deserve the merit they were awarded. It's not fair to say music offered "nothing" then. Quite the contrary. 1990-1995 was like the late 60's as far as music actually being relevant and good. There was lots to choose from... and Smashing Pumpkins sounded like NO ONE. They carved their own sound and inspired many afterward. They were great... but all that is over now, Corgan is indeed an asshole, and apparently can't stop whining.

Billy "Bordem" will never touch the voice and talent of Chris Cornell, in song writing, singing and overall talent. He's running his mouth to sell his own soul. Sound Garden has the talent and means to come back and make great music again, BC=Boob Cunt!

shadow1029

His voice wont be a match for Chris and his guitar playing is no match for Kim Thayil.

Jamie McCutchen

Billy Corgan is such a douche bag! Yeah, Soundgarden is only in it for the money and just playing their old songs. Sure, I guess their new song on The Avengers soundtrack doesn't count. Or the new album they are working on. When was the last time the Smashing Pumpkins were relevant? They had what, maybe three hit songs? So yeah, why are you still trying to hang around Corgan? Nobody gives a shit.

It's funny..I have old issue of GW ..It's from the early 90's Maybe 91.. Although I can't remember the month, it did have tears in Heaven, Rocky mountain way etc...Anyways, there's an in depth interview with Kim Thayil, and he was just blasting 80's bands, and
guitarists from that genre..I thought "What a dick"..He was stating that he would rather be a 20 something then a 30 nothing, or a 40's has been doing the oldies circuit just for money. It's not quoted word for word, but this is very close to what he said in that article.Well guess what Kim you Dick!
Ever since I read that article, I lost all respect for him and by default "Soundgarden"..How I'm loving seeing him eat crow as I see his greying beard performing country fairs on the oldies circuit.
Too bad, because I have the utmost repect for Chris Cornell..

Um... at that time in the early nineties some of those 80's bands DESERVED that blasting Kim spouted. Soundgarden is not eating any crow and... lol... Soundgarden doesn't do "county fairs"... They reunited to headline major concerts like Lollapalooza (which even though happens in Corgan's hometown of Chicago, Corgan could never pull that off) and Coachella.
I remember back in 1993 or 94 Kim Thayill actually telling Corgan to quit whining and enjoy & accept the attention the media & fans were giving them. Corgan was complaining about their success and how "un cool" being really popular is. It was very fashionable to be "non-rock star" at that time and having normal indie street cred was far more desirable than riding in limos wearing leather pants & the enjoying the streotypical excesses of the rock star mythos like hooking up with two cuties, a pile of blow, & tossing a tv out of a hotel room window... that shit was dead and gone... along with the guitar solo. Replaced by show gazers, wearing cargo shorts & a flannel shirt & chilling in a coffee shop.
Corgan is actually a shredder guitar player and wrote some really great songs. I don't want to bash the guy but he really should quit bitching and be grateful he doesn't have to work at PetSmart.
They were never on the same level as Soundgarden was, though in my opinion.

I love the Pumpkins but Pavement are my favorite band ever. I was lucky enough to see them in Columbus, Ohio during the reunion tour. The show was amazing and anything but a bunch of guys going through the motions to make a buck. I think it irks Billy that, unlike Pavement who got all five original members on board, he can't come close to getting his original band together to want to record/tour with him. Pavement did not see a lot of money when they were together in the 90's so I have zero problem with them seeing some cash during the reunion tour.

mckchris

WTF is a Billy Corgan?

Sci-Fi_Jones

I don't the rest of his band would play with him ever again. regardless of how much you PAID them.

avatar

gearboxty

Billy only said that...to make money.

I don't hate on Corgan for his commentary. He is one of those "artists" who considers himself an "artist". He spends a great deal of time letting people know how full of integrity he is. Kind of like tooting ur own horn or pounding your own.....drum.
Still, he is just a person like you and me....even if he doesn't realize it. Fan of his tunes. Doesn't mean I care about his opinions more than the next guy. He did achieve his goal however. We ARE talking about it. :)

avatar

kcrichards

Never liked Billy Corgan or the Smashing Pumpkins so why would I give any credence to anything this guy has to say. Soundgarden always was and will be a better band than anything Corgan can put together.

avatar

potbelly66

do you think the Stones reunite cuz it's all about playing the music and hanging with each other? $$$$$$$$

AngryChad

Says the man who continues to record under the name Smashing Pumpkins, despite the fact that no one else from the original lineup is in it any more...

What a load of shit. Soundgarden is one of the few bands that has always made music for the sake of music. That's why their music was everchanging & why they quit when they were only getting better and better - Because they didn't feel like it anymore. If Soundgarden was all about the money, they would've sold out ages ago and made some commercial crap. Fuck, the new record could've been released earlier this year, but they kept working on it because they want it to sound *just* right. The only one who's doing anything for the sake of money is this attention seeking douchebag attempting to get a handful of fans by getting controversial publicity.

In conclusion, Billy Corgan can fuck off.
