Highlights from the Nashville NAMM Show
The NAMM Show. Gotta love it.
Where else can you check out loads of beautiful instruments, see fabulous musicians play and then hang with all your favorite industry peeps. Nowhere!
This year’s Nashville show was jam packed full of great gear and fun times. Acoustic Nation sponsored the live performance stage, so it was exciting to see the many acoustic musicians that performed in that space.
Plus, it’s Nashville. What’s not to like? Great music just about everywhere. Excellent food. Unmatched musical energy and great people (or should I say folks??).
Loved every minute of it. Check out my gallery for my favorite gear and events this year. They’re not ranked in any order. Just random goodness!
The Loar LH-207-BR Small Body Guitar Here’s Ashley Atz from The Loar sharing their new small body Brownstone guitar. The LH-204-BR is based on the award winning LH-200, and has a solid Sitka spruce top, mahogany back, sides and neck and a rosewood fretboard in a classic pre-war body style. A beautiful dark tone finish tops it off. Nice.
Eastman Guitars E10oo-M Small Body Acoustic Here I am checking out this lovely little guitar from Eastman. It has a solid mahogany body, top and neck with an ebony fingerboard. Love it! Look for more on this guitar coming soon.
Payton Taylor on the Acoustic Nation Stage I stopped by the live performance stage several times. It was sponsored by Acoustic Nation, so I couldn’t stay away! The live performance by Payton Taylor and her band was one of my favorites. Acoustic instruments galore!!
Cordoba Guitars Here’s a lineup of gorgeous nylon string guitars from Cordoba. We especially dig the crossover guitars with smaller, thinner necks for us mere mortals.
Taylor Guitars 12-string 150e Here’s Andy Powers, who took the 150e through its paces. This affordable, gorgeous feeling (and sounding) guitar is one for the collection. It’s got a really lovely, even tone from top to bottom, excellent intonation and comes with Taylor’s Expression System acoustic electronics. Yes, please!
Breedlove Oregon I love the story of this guitar. It was created as a completely local product to honor Breedlove’s home state. And that’s why it has a myrtlewood top, a wood indigenous to Oregon. How cool is that? Looks and sounds lovely. Tom Bedell here took me through the backstory. As a matter of fact this brand had several very beautiful models…too many to mention!
Casio Live On-Air Performances It was cool to check out this live performance with artist Marie Hines on Lightning 100, Nashville’s local independent radio station. Not only were the performances super cool, but Kevin Terry on cello was a delightful surprise!! Kudos to Casio for sponsoring the live day at NAMM.
Fishman Preamps Can’t wait to try one of these. The petite Platinum Stage restores a studio-miked sound to your undersaddle or soundhole pickup, and can hook right onto your strap or belt. And the slightly larger Platinum Pro EQ also includes a 5-band EQ, adjustable compressor, chromatic tuner, effects loop, plus a high-quality balanced XLR D.I. Plus their sleek silvers styling is just cool!
Tuners from IMS Technologies I thought I’d seen it all. But I’ve never seen a tuner shaped like an alien (or an owl, or a reindeer for that matter). These clever little accessories are super fun and have super soft clips that won’t mar your guitar finish. Can you say stocking stuffer?
The Women’s International Music Network Showcase The WiMN brought three talented young female artists who brought their talents to the Acoustic Nation stage. Each took turns performing their songs in the round. Thanks to Rorie Kelly, Jenna Paone and Sidney Brown for sharing with us!
Yamaha L Series I think I’ve mentioned before that I dig the newly reissued Yamaha L-Series. They sound great acoustically and perhaps even better, their electronics sound equally fabulous. Really. Just try one.
Greg Bates on the Acoustic Nation stage It was a blast having Greg Bates share his amazingly well written music on the Acoustic Nation Stage. Martin Guitars was kind enough to bring this fabulous artist to the show. He closed out our programming for Saturday and what a way to end the day!
Martin D-18 Sycamore Here’s Scott Follweiler from Martin showing off their new D-18 Sycamore model. Have you ever seen a guitar made from sycamore? Me neither! This limited edition of 50 guitars was created to celebrate 50 years of manufacturing guitars on Sycamore Street in Nazareth, PA. It has a terrified spruce top, and it just looks and sounds glorious!
Songwriter Sessions: Live Hit Nashville songwriter Clay Mills and I selected six performers to play their songs on the Acoustic Nation stage. Then we shared some thoughts and suggestions with each artist and the audience. Fun and informative!! Thank you: Kendra Bragg, Eric Coomer, Sam Hatmaker, Jenna Paone, Dani Poppitt, and Chris Rogers.
Jonathan Jackson Not only does Jackson play the talented Avery Barkley on the hit show Nashville, he has his own fantastic band as well called Enation. He and his brother Richard Jackson played some acoustic selections from their upcoming album. So good!
Martin D-28 Louvin Brothers Guitar Martin stole the show with their ballsy The Louvin Brothers limited edition signature series guitar. Not only was the guitar displayed right as you walk in one of the main entrances, it was impossible to ignore with bright vintage graphics. It’s limited to only 50 pieces, so if you get you’re hands on one of these, don’t let go!
