Five Weird Pieces of Art Based on Guitars
Luthiers are artists, and some guitars are real art.
But what happens when an artist tries to make an actual piece of art out of a guitar?
Sometimes it's functional—and a masterpiece. But sometimes it's a piece of, well, junk.
In the photo gallery below, we take a look at five pieces of what I like to call Guit-Arts! And yes, I insist on the capital G and the capital A!
Semi Souames has an obsession for all things guitar. He is the founder and editor of two guitar blogs: Guitar Fail because guitar is fun, so we can make fun of it, and Muzicosphere, where he comments on the guitar industry, gear news and so many more guitar-related things. He also is a journalist — and he plays guitar sometimes.
Chuck Testa-Approved Guitar? I've seen a lot of creepy creations, whether they were based on a guitar or not. But this is probably one of the creepiest I've ever seen. I bet that hilarious taxidermist Chuck Testa wouldn't deny this stuffed-cat guitar. Let's not start with the ergonomic nonsense. Teeth and claws and legs right under the arm, seriously? Ice Ice Guitar: I guess this guitar falls into the ephemeral art category. Not only it will melt at room temperature, but just imagine how hard it is to last a whole set with this guitar! There's only one question: Are audiences willing to freeze as they listen to music? Head to coolbuzz.org for more info.
Are Your Fingers Long Enough for a Long Neck Guitar? I hope you know guitar are phallic instruments. Maybe that's the not-so-hidden message behind these long-neck guitars creations? The bigger, the better? I guess string maker's point of view is, "Nope! They don't make strings that long." Head to awesomenator.com for more info and photos.
Bowing a Guitar Doesn't Make a Bowed Guitar: Everyone knows about bowed instruments and even bowed guitars. But I don't think that means you should actually "bow" a guitar! Jimmy Page might be interested, though. His old bowed guitar performances would have had more cachet with one of these babies. Head to awesomenator.com for more info and photos.
