Today, GuitarWorld.com brings you the exclusive premiere of a newly remastered version of "Altering the Future" from Death's 1990 album, Spiritual Healing. The remastered album will be released November 20 in multiple formats by Relapse Records.
Looking to both honor the memory of the late Chuck Schuldiner and raise some money for an excellent cause, a cast of former Death members are getting together for the "Death to All" tour this year. Set to take part are guitarists Paul Masvidal, Shannon Hamm and Bobby Koelble; bassists Steve DiGiorgio and Scott Clendenin; and drummers Gene Hoglan and Sein Reinert.
It was early 2001 when Chuck Schuldiner’s headaches returned. Over the past year, he had begun to feel like his old self again—remarkable, considering that, just one year before, the death metal guitarist had nearly died. In early January 2000, doctors in New York City had managed to remove more than half of a cancerous tumor dangerously nestled at the base of his brain. Months of physical therapy followed while he recovered at home, in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
Today marks the tenth anniversary of the death of Chuck Schuldiner, who passed away far too soon at the age of 34 from a brain tumor. Chuck's memory has been kept alive by the metal community over the years, and this year, NPR has compiled a series of essays from members of the metal world on their favorite Death tracks, and what they mean to the individuals.
BraveWords.com is exclusively streaming an unreleased Death track from the upcoming 20th anniversary reissue of Human. The track, a rehearsal version of the song "Together As One," can be streamed here.
