Philip Anselmo, legendary frontman of Pantera and Down, will release his career-first solo album, Walk Through Exits Only, July 16 via his own Housecore Records (MRI/Megaforce). Walk Through Exits Only will be available digitally, on CD and on vinyl.

Down Announce Seven-Date Headline Tour in May

Down have announced that they'll perform a handful of headline dates in May. The tour, which will start May 23 in Birmingham, Alabama, will will stop in seven cities in the Southeast, including Baltimore's Maryland Deathfest, and wrap up with a May 31 hometown show in New Orleans. Tickets go on sale to the general public February 16 and include VIP packages with opportunities to meet the band and hang out at soundcheck.

Rex Brown knows a thing or two about bass. The man has been pounding out well-known, monstrous basslines for close to 30 years, ever since Pantera's first record, Metal Magic, in 1983. Brown, who was inspired to play bass by Paul McCartney, John Paul Jones and Geezer Butler, teamed up with like-minded musicians Vinnie Paul, Terry Glaze and Dimebag Darrell in 1982. Phil Anselmo joined the band in 1987, forming what would be considered Pantera's classic lineup.

It looks like Down are keeping true to their promise of recording a series of EPs this year instead of a full-length album. The band has indicated that each EP will feature a different style, and according to lead singer Phil Anselmo, the first one will be "a very pure doom metal record."
