If you're "not looking for that fancy crap" as you put it, then look at a more simple, bare bones amp. I, personally, don't care for Line6 tone. Is it a half stack/head you're looking for or a combo amp? Is it for bedroom/living room playing, or jamming with friends? The all tube Peavey ValveKing may be more up your alley. There are a lot of other amps too that are better than the Line6 Spider series.

I think Line 6 amps are strictly for bedroom wanking.

I have a Line6 75 watt head and I think it was a heck of a bargain. Sure there are better amps, but I think Spider is the best in it's price range. You get four distinct channels, clean, crunch, metal and insane. Insane has a punk rock sound. I think it sounds damn good. The built "FX" is kinda worthless, but the tone is great. I play mine through two 12" celestion speakers.

Actually I'm getting ready to buy a new guitar. I was trying out different Schecters with Seymour Duncan and Duncan Designed pickups at Guitar Center and I was using the same Line6 I own. I have a BC Rich guitar right now, and with both the Seymour Duncan Pickups and the Duncan Designed pickups it make the amp sound even better than with my BC Rich. My BC Rich pickups do not pick up pinch harmonics at all, it's pittyful. With the Schecters plugged into the Line6 pinch harmonics wail like crazy.

It is a bargain - you get one a year later for $50
