I looked at Mighty Mite's necks, and for an all maple neck with the floyd nut cut, it's $139. I want some options. I'd perfer a Jackson style all maple neck with compound radius. That would be ideal. Somewhere around $150. Maple seems to be the staple of hair metalers, and others like EVH, Yngwie, Mick Mars. I never owned a guitar with a maple fingerboard.
Might be a bit expensive, but look into warmoth's necks. They build to your custom order. I was playing around with their options and I came up with my ultimate explorer neck and it cost around $200. But that was because I was doing all kinds of beveling and trim and what not. It'll probably cost less in your case. According to my guitar maintenance book, maple fingerboards are the most desirable as they are the easiest to maintain. (most difficult being ebony) Hence why I really want a tele with a one piece maple neck/fingerboard.
Yeah.....I did it and it came to $394. That's without binding, but it's a birdseye maple and fingerboard with SS frets.

I've been cosidering getting the Southeast body with a 1/8'' flamed maple top. Not much. It says it's a $25 base price. What does that mean exactly? Would it cost me like a $100 extra a thin flamed maple top?
Also, I can't seem to think of a cool paint job for this. It'll be like an old vintage Kramer style guitar, think of a Barretta. I was thinking of this sick orange. Think of the color of Tony Stewart's car while he was drivin' the Home Depot car. That kind of orange. If I get this with a flamed top, I was thinking of a deep trans purple.

I've got a birdseye maple Warmoth neck ("custom" profile), with a matching fretboard, medium frets, and a Graphtech trem-nut, on my latest "Partscaster", and it's almost worth as much as the entire rest of the guitar ...don't get me wrong, it's nice, but not that nice...I could have saved a ton of money, if I'd got the neck somewhere ele.

Exactly, that's why warmoth is out of the question. I wanted to see how much it cost for an LP body with all the trim and shit, and it was $1150.

Well, I think I decided on a finish. I'm gonna do a trans green with gold hardware. I saw a kick ass Hamer Cali in trans green with a flamed top and gold hardware, and it was fucking ill. What would cheaper? A) to have somebody else paint it? B) to paint it myself?
If B, what is a reasonibly price spray gun kit with all the shit I need in one pack with a compressor for about $100?

blackhell1 wrote:Okay, so building a guitar has come up again, and this time it might happen. My mom said that she would get me the body and the neck, and after I paint those (roughly 2 months), she'll order the parts for me.
I have some options here:
1) Get the GFS Randy Rhoads V kit. Pros: Cheap, has a Floyd Rose with it, V shape. Cons: No options on body shape, wood, or parts. Possible shitty quailty.
2) Get a body from K&E guitars, and a neck from either guitarfetish, or ebay. Pros: I can choose the wood, shape, and layout, alot of options Cons: It can get expensive.
3) Get a body from SouthEast guitars. Pros: Handmade body, choose on woods. Cons: I don't know where to get a neck, expensive.
4) Get a GFS Tele kit. Reason: I can get it for $90. I'd rather fuck up this then a handmade body.
What do you think?
I'd go with a cheap kit if this is your 1st go at painting. Take it from someone who just painted his first guitar( I am the guy who has the flying v kit thread). you'll learn a few things along the way. I'd go with the Rhoads or the Tele.

For any real paint work, you're gonna need a compresor aith a big air tank (not one of those little 3, or 5 gallon tanks), and a whloe bunch of accessories that go with it (like a water accumulator, paint filters, etc)...it's gonna cost alot more than $100 for all that stuff, I'd just buy a good instructional book (go to http://www.paintyourownguitar.com , it's the best place for guitar painting info).

I think I'm gonna take to somebody who can paint it and do all that stuff, because I don't have the area to paint it. How much would it cost?

since there really aren't to many shops that specialize in guitar painting you'd have to look for someone to do the job and then it would be up to them.

Okay, now about Floyds. I was looking at the ones on Axcessiors.com, and they have an Original Floyd Rose (made in Germany) in gold for $189, and they have a PING floyd rose. The PING has a brass block, and it's cheaper (about $160.). What's the better choice? The tried and true original, or the sustain generating copy?

Start with the cheapest possible kit you can find, so you don't fuck up a $150 body and a floyd rose. IF you do a decent job on the kit, then go for the expensive stuff.

The Ping's are the absolute best of any liscensed Floyds...the quality's excellent, that's why they're the only ones that have the Floyd name on 'em...Floyd doesn't do that for just everybody who makes their clones.

So, it some cases it might be better than the OFR that Axcessiors.com is selling?
