Meh,

Marshalls always left me wanting more lowend and high gain articulation.
Mesa gave me that, but left me wanting stronger attack and midrange punch, which Marshalls always gave me.

I found the combination of both in Peavey amps, mainly the JSX.

I am working towards owning a Marshall and Mesa head then run them in stereo for a truly supreme ruling almightly rock and metal guitar tone

Which Mesa are you referring to? Mark series? A Rectifier? Nomad? F series? Stiletto? Lone Star? Which one? I'm going to be putting EL 34's in my Rectifier, I thought the tubes would have arrived by now. Next week sometime. I've heard a lot of guys never go back to the 6L6's in their Rectifiers once they've tried that. I've researched it, I can't wait. I agree with you on the mid range thing, on Rectifiers anyway, but EL 34's have more midrange. I was going to try the MXR 10 band EQ in front of the amp first, to bring out more mids, but I'm going to try the EL 34's first. I tried the JSX - sweet sounding amp, just not as versatile as I would like. I DO use all four channels, pretty frequently actually, in my Roadster.

If I'm not mistaken, he's goin' for the Single Rec.

I am more than happy with my current Ampeg VL-501 and Peavey VTM 60 rig.

Yeah, I'm looking for a Single Rec and a DSL 50.
But I would also go for a JCM 800, 900, VM or JVM 205.
In all honesty though, if I could come across a used Mark IV I'd be happy with just that.

If that's the case, EL 34's might solve the issue. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the way my amp sounds, but a little more midrange would be cool, and the EL 34's are inexpensive - VERY inexpensive, in this case, so I'm going to pop 'em in and see what I get. The Roadster is rockin', I love it, but with such an inexpensive experiment, of course I'm going to give it a try. And of course I'll post what I think about the tube change when it happens.

There's just so many tube options out there. Somewhere down the road, I'd like to try KT77's for my Ampeg (and I haven't gotten onto the 6550 option yet) and 5881's for the VTM 60.

I've done the EL34 tube swap with my friend and his old Triple Rec.
I liked the results, but they weren't that noticable. The presence, mids and attack those amps seem to lack for me have more to do with the preamp voicing, not the poweramp. I've found better results are had by installing a combination of some brighter, more sharp sounding 12AX7's such as Chinese/Shaung/Ruby's or Tungsol.

Haha, that's pretty much the idea I had when I started running a Stiletto and a Rectoverb in stereo! Let me tell ya, its the best sound I've had in a long time. At the end of the day it just made sense. I liked the raw British sound but kept going back to the modern rock sound. Why not run both at the same time?

my amp has alot of bottom end now if you choose to dial it in. and it's not muddy either.
you should just get a DSL and send it to FJA mods and you'd probably be happy with that.

Stiletto's are great. Except they don't pop up used very often and the one I saw the other day was new and priced at $2350.
I haven't played one but I listened to a guy put one through its paces in a store before. Very loud, clear and toneful.
I guess it's supposed to be Mesa's take on Marshall, but definitely not the modern Marshalls. More like the JCM 800, Jubilee, Plexi, JTM & JMP.

i've been seeing used DSL's pop up here and there for like 600, 700, ect- you could get one of those and have all the mods done for less than 1300 and have a killer amp.
