Not that it's a big deal, and we have the brackets to look at, but GW has Mr. Crowely's path up there instead of Comfortably Numb's. :p

How come Duane Allman's Elizabeth Reed solo from Fillmore East never even gets mentioned in any of these things. It never places in any of the top 100 solo lists. It's my all time favorite guitar solo.

Good point ladd, or maybe Duane on "Loan Me A Dime".

Why have a decent solo(s) when you can have 10-15 seconds of metal/shred/wankfest is pretty much how it goes on here.. Sadly only 10% on here would know what we're talkin' bout! Dickey & Duane, yeaa

Happily....I would believe that most people know of Dicky Betts and Duane Allman. They wrote some very classic songs, both excellent players a deserve some recognition in this poll. But this is Guitar World and like it or not they cater to the more harder edge style of guitar. Plus the wankfest genre did produce at 2 or 3 good players that were in tune and not relying on feedback to get their point across.

thebreeze, very mature of you..not.

Wow, you really are a tool. He was trying to explain to you why it's not just your opinion that matters, and you just threw it in his face like he was Miley Cyrus. Very mature of you.......NOT.

Well I can't believe it "Stairway..." looks like it is going to lose :( "Comfortably Numb" is a song I have never liked and I will never have it end up in any of my playlists, in fact I don't have any Pink Floyd songs.

"Stairway..." is my favourite song of all time.

And by the looks of it, "...Numb", is going to beat "Eruption" as well - so, it will be the hailed the greatest solo of ALL time, in perpetuity never to be argued with again. That is just soooo fraking wrong!!!

When the children ask, "Dad what is the best guitar solo of all time?", I will gave to answer "Comfortably Numb" and then wash to vomit and bile spewing forth from my mouth.

Dude, it's just a poll, and who knows who votes for these songs/solos/guitarists ....they might not even play guitar or appreciate guitar solos!

Are you gonna tell your kids that Brian May is the second best guitarist of all time?

It's personal preference, mine is (and probably always will be) my man Jimi...
They are all great!

Plus there's plenty of time for tide turning, since this will probably be still up through the weekend.

Sidenote: notice the huge lack of votes ever since Brian May was taken out? :P Seems to have dropped by the thousands.

Whawwwwww, whannn na nah na na na nah na na nah na na nah nah. That's what I unashamedly sound like playing air guitar to Stairway, in case anyone wants to compete with me in an air guitar solo contest. That's what you're up against. Have some.

Perfect solo, perfect song. This is closer than I expected though. Voted for the other Jimmy. Numb is sublime, but just shy of perfection.

Could it really be Stairway vs. Eruption in the final. No one saw that coming!

I find this decision easier than the Gilmour vs Rhoad's poll. My vote goes to Dave and hopefully for the win...

This is why I voted for Gilmore, I have all albums from both groups and of coarse there's some I like more than others. It's not that Stairway got played to death...there's a reason it was. When I hear both one after the other I come to the same conclusion. You just cant get around Gilmores emotion and touch in "EVERY" note of that song. He's that way in all of Pink Floyds songs and his own stuff. The creativity in these songs is what I find more that in Led Zepplin IMO. There's more connection there.

Two great bands, two awesome musicians I can't vote for both. This is tough...but I connect more with David Gilmore in all directions.

So far the results are baffling to me. IMO 'Numb is the greatest solo of all time. It's a song within a song and has everything you can ask for in a guitar solo. Stairway is great....nothing but kudo's for Page, I just think that Gilmour was given the perfect platform to create this timeless masterpiece, and he nailed it. If it ends up being Stairway vs. Eruption......then it will be interesting to see how close it will be!! IMO the main reason Page may win the round is because of the overall song itself still clouds the judgement of the people voting. If you were you to hear both solo's with the backing track for the 1st time not knowing what the songs were, Numb would win.....I say 90% to 10% for Stairway. Let the haters begin!!

Have to agree, Comfortably Numb has more 'feel' even though I think Jimmy rips on that Stairway solo. I voted for Gilmour. But I will vote either one over Eruption.

Have to say that Jimi in Voodoo Child is still the penultimate high energy peak solo IMHO. Eruption? Tho' I really liked it the first few times I heard it, for me, the best part of that guitar 'exercise' is the end when EVH starts the intro to You Really Got Me ....

Just sayin' ....

Just to be clear, in case my post below may be confusing, I did in fact vote Eruption over VooDoo Child :P I just so happen to prefer both Stairway and Comfortably Numb's solos to Eruption.

While Comfortably Numb may be a beautiful solo, did it change they way people played a guitar? I'm not a huge Pink Floyd fan, so I am biased but to me it is just another great solo by a great player. Nothing too great worth being recognized as the best of all time.

That being said, if you've seen my username you know that I'm a big EVH fan. I probably wouldn't have picked Eruption as his best solo, but it did definitely change the guitar landscape more than any of these other final four songs. That's the reason I am voting for Eruption to win.

As for this particular match, I pick Stairway. Led Zeppelin is my second favorite band and as noted in the comments elsewhere this solo probably isn't the best of his work, but it is the most famous.

Though it may wind up the losing vote, I still vote Comfortably Numb. Whichever wins, I'm voting it against Eruption anyway :P
