U guys r outta ur mind. Ed did this solo on the fly and Dime "fucked with it til it sounded right" i could play Floods in my sleep. Try playin HfT and getting the timing right. Itll tak u a while no matter how good u are. Floods is cool in an orchestra kinda way but if ur gonna go there, they shoulda put it up against Cathedral which tops Floods easy. HfT just rocks from a guitar players prospective and Floods is just ho-hum.

If we let influence and all the other externals factor in it will just be Robert Johnson vs Robert Johnson in the finals. My vote is for floods. Let the solo stand on it's own merits.

I voted this win for Dime based on the fact that although EVH can nail excitement in five seconds, Dime based his solo on his band mates... and that is where a good solo comes from. Misfits and Nirvana are perfect examples of this... and even Miami Vice's sound track is a good example. You may be able to play a thousand notes but sometimes you only need a few played on a bad Epi on a crappy amp... but still, give me a hot solo any day!

Solo to Solo. The analog music and digital recording to an individual master track from the solo. You can take a single experience to the choices pieces recorded. Now is there a better solo here no. Why, to cover a wide range of guitarist to the Dime day it’s really hasn't reached a next level player. Dime would have been the next podium guitarist. Now if he had accomplished as many albums did by the time of counting 1984 then this would be credible but its not.

It's okay if Ed loses this round. "Eruption" is the money solo.

Seems a lot more feeling in floods to my ears.

Opinions are just opinions but solos are not just solos, they are works of art ......DB will win this one but in all fairness Ed is still the king....this is just for,fun but I,see some dudes get their feathers ruffled.....put on the first Van Halen and smoke a fat one.....then put on cowboys from hell or vulgar display of power.....Dime would have voted for Ed....

Eddie van Halen all the way everything dimebag did was because of Evh

I am a die hard EVH fan. I listened to both of these particular solos. I voted for Dimebag! Love Eddie but in this case I heard something special in Dime's solo over Ed's! I'm even shocked at myself!

I see that the Dimebag fanboys have turned-out in droves for this poll after being posted on Abbott's FB page.

"Floods" is a pretty decent solo, but in NO WAY is it better than the epic blistering solo on "Hot For Teacher".

Unless it also gets posted on VH's page, I call foul.

Out of everything Dime played, this is probably my second favorite solo (cemetery gates is #1). This is in my top 15 if not top 10 solos of all time. As much as I love EVH hot for teacher's solo just doesn't have the same level of emotion to it. Floods is perfection, hot for teacher is sick, but totally outclassed

I have a feeling that unfortunately we are going to be seeing more of this facebook fanboy flooding. Remember the last readers GW poll where thanks to the flooding from Queen’s facebook, Brian May beat out Page, Beck, Hendrix and everyone else he went up against until he finally got stopped by Eddie Van Halen in the final round. So from here on out these polls are basically going to be about whose facebook gets the “heads up” first, or has more members.

Oh well, it's all done for fun anyway so it doesn’t really matter.

As much as I like Dimebag, EVH cannot be beaten. Face it, dudes- every thing that DB brought to the table was planted, grown, fertilized, picked, washed, delivered to the store, and handed to DB by EVH.

Dime:
“That particular solo was thought-out in a more orchestrated fashion than some of the others I play where I just start ripping right off the bat... The thing that really makes the ‘Floods’ solo come across like it does is [bassist] Rex’s playing behind it. He’s using his fingers and he plays a whole bunch of cool licks and shit in there. He definitely adds to the vibe and feel of my lead because I’m playing off his part a lot—it was a great foundation for me to build on... I picked up the idea of doubling from Randy Rhoads. It seemed appropriate to start off in a slow, melodic fashion and then build and build and build to the climax with the big harmonic squeals at the end... For that last big note I think there’s four guitars going on. There’s a squeal at the second fret of the G string, a squeal at the fifth fret of the G and then I used a DigiTech Whammy Pedal on two-string squeals at the harmonics at the fourth and 12th frets of the G and B strings, I believe. That was one of those deals where I didn’t plan it out. I just sat there and fucked with it until it sounded right.”

Ed:
"I winged that one."

As much as I will always love EVH, Dimebag cannot be beaten. For the record, cemetery gates should have won its round. It's easily in my top 5 of all time

I like Hot For Teacher, but I LOVE Floods.
