Solos from the two different types of music as a kid I grew up to LS while I was an out of school JS came in my life and it was as serious as Surfin with an alien. Power chords on one side while a chord progression with guitar effects to boot on the other side. Sound wise Freebird the production is great allowing for a better recording of just one guitarist playing in his mind a great party song. That song has a lot of memories.

You have to remember lynyrd skynyrd weren't all about flashy guitar solos, they were a great BAND.

I can't believe it, I really can't - "Freebird" winning over "Surfing.."

It is just so totally ludicrous, words fail me ...

If this were a vote about who is the better guitarist... hands down it would be Satch! But since this is a vote regarding our opinion on the better solo... I have to give it to Free Bird.

Freebird winning over Alien??? wtf....
What´s next? Comfortably Numb over For The Love Of God? I would have to quit then...

I think it would be really helpful to have two separate polls with instrumental songs in one poll and guitar solos in vocal songs in another.

Agreed, nearly everything skynyrd did was better than Satriani, songwise. guitar playing obviously goes to satriani

Wanted to vote for Satch, but, for me, the guitar work in Freebird elicits emotion. I can feel the call and recall and the rise and fall of the song.
That's what makes a solo great for me.
Had to go for Freebird.

Freebird!

"Free Bird" is a duet, not a solo, and should be disqualified.

Listing Gary Rossington as a soloist is a dumb error by Guitar World. Rossington says right in the description that the extended jam solo is is NOT a duet. The studio recording is Allen Collins double-tracked...of course, live they had to have another guitarist playing since unless you're Michael Angelo Batio, one person can't normally play two guitars! That said, if anyone thinks double tracked solos shouldn't be allowed in this poll, than I'd bet many of the solos on the list would have to be thrown out.

Same for "Hotel California"

You guys have to be kidding again, right? Lehnerd Skinherd vs. Satch? Same as my grandmother vs. Mike Tyson, no question, Satch wins.

This is getting ridiculous.

they're both equally great but I voted for freebird because I know Satch will never make it to the end.
