Soloing right through the whole song compared to some chord changes with some lead arrangements. These both have there moments but I think if you combine the two you get "Green Grass and High Tides". Really this is really mellow and was consider top 40 to play. They both should remain there dormant collecting darkness. The guitar work in Steely Dan was a high school favorite wish list song to play. Everyone knew Hotel California just like they knew Stairway to Heaven.

Although Elliott Randall is given credit for the "solo" in this song, he was the lead player in all the solos *except* the outro solo.

This was played by Jeff "Skunk" Baxter.

Many complain that Hotel California had 2 lead players, but "Reelin' in the Years" was also played by 2 guitarists. Separate leads.

I seriously doubt that the "Steely Dan Facebook" will be able to turn this one around, LOL! =P

Hotel California FTW!

IMO, Reelin' In the Years gets the win on this one. I like the Hotel California solo, but it is so orchestrated vs. the off-the-cuff soloing of Elliott Randall.

I love the musicianship in much of the Steely Dan stuff, but I feel there were better songs to draw from than this one.
While good, it just ran into the brick wall of iconic guitar sound that is Hotel California.

I am surprised to see none of the Scorpions work in these brackets.

Both tunes are great. But will agree the Eagles will have the upper hand!
And thanks to GW for not only including Hotel California but the whole album!

Anything for your listening pleasure! (Actually, we couldn't find a video of just the song — at least not the studio version.)

"Hotel California" should be disqualified. It's a duet, not a solo.

No, it shouldn't.

The Shred King ...

Hotel California will likely take it. As much as I love shred this is the best solo in the bunch.
