Greatest Guitar Solos of All Time Readers Poll: Round 2 — "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" (Eric Clapton) Vs. "Satch Boogie" (Joe Satriani)

Soloing over the same bass line through the whole song has left this planet. vinniemoore has a gentle weep guitar in which it would make more sense to today's guitarist really exposing the dynamics of levels of playing. Going to raise hell, crash and burn, peter gunn all these single songs use the single base line through the whole song. This would be very boring to an audience. If you stopped in the middle of satch boogie and soloed to any of these bass lines that could work as long as the audience know the song.



So here we have another case of apples vs oranges (which seems to be the case with most of these remaining entries).

As classic as the "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" solo is, pretty much all of "Satch Boogie" is basically one big huge blazing guitar solo. I guess this means that it comes down to a classic vs overwhelmingly technical mastery.

I'm going with the overwhelmingly technical mastery of Satch!
