Tight but loose

Impossible to have greatest singer comp. when you have people like Anselmo,Blythe,Keenan, and Cobain in while Steve Perry,Steve Marriot,Paul Rodgers,David Coverdale,Ian Gillian, and Rod Stewart aren't even being considered. This is such a f@#king joke.

Robert plant! because he is more versatile!

What's next All Time Greatest manager? How about best Engineer or even better All Time Greatest Roadie. No, I got it World's Greatest Drummer. Nothing against drummers but this is GUITAR World. But I would not be surprised if there were a drummer poll

1. Robert Plant (WINNER)
2. Freddie Mercury
3. Ann Wilson (quit fawning over Adele. This is the real voice)
4. Steve Perry
5. Steven Tyler
6. Axl Rose
7. Sammy Hagar
8. Scott Weiland
9. Sting
10. Mick Jagger
11. David Coverdale
12. Stevie Nicks
13. Don Henley
14. David Lee Roth
15. Eddie Vedder (Yes I realize no-one knows what he's saying, but it sounds good)
16. Pat Benetar

For consideration in a round of 32. (aka honorable mentions)

Gary Cerone, Janis Joplin, Brad Delp (Boston), John Lennon, David Jones (yes from the Monkees. If he had hooked up with Neil Schon instead of Steve, we still would have had Journey), Chris Cornell (I haven't listened to much Soundgarden. This is the only reason I didn't put him in the top 10), Jon Bon Jovi, James Hetfield, Roger Daltery, and Dr. Teeth (Electric Mayhem). <--Just curious if anyone is reading this.

Now when are we doing the greatest bassist? I hope to see Aston "Family Man" Barrett, Flea and Bootsy on there.

Amazing, a few days ago I was thinking GW should make a list like this. Equally amazing is that the two individuals I happened to be listening to at the time and two other considerations are not on this list where undeserving individuals are. Seriously, how are Steven Tyler, Steve Perry, Ann Wilson, and Scot Weiland not on this list? I'm not going to step on the toes of some fans and mention any names, but you all know good and well, quite a few folks DO NOT BELONG ON THIS LIST when others could be considered. I mean seriously, if this is what you're giving us, then you may as well put Scott Stapp in there. (<--PAUSE FOR A MINUTE!!! I'm not serious about adding him. It was just a comment)

And, yes this next comment will cause some issues. Search your feelings, you know it to be true. All three singers for Van Halen should at least be in a best of 32 grouping. (Gary more for his work with Extreme)

Just seen that Plant was blowing Bon Scott out of the water. Well, nothing against Bon (RIP) but, Robert Plant? He should really win this whole contest. Actually my all time favorite is the late, great James Dewar, just listen to that old Robin Trower stuff. Got to be soulful sounding for me,.... but.........no no no, screw this poll, screw all these polls. Please Guitar World, Stop! Find some real articles.

Not another one of these stupid contests. I thought it was going to be Plant covering an old AC/DC song. Another contest? No!! I will not vote in this and this is the last time I'm going to click on the article. What's next? Best Bass player, Best Drummer (Moon vs Bonham in final) Keyboads? Producers? Soundmen? Roadies? Enough already!

Hope nobody participates in these idiotic and moronic polls.
The people who thought these polls up could not be musicians themselves as we all know playing and making music is not a competition. And, to compare one singer or guitarist against another as to who is better - see my first sentence!

Lame! We've had enough.

Another dumb contest. Who is "better" should actually be labeled "who do you like more".
Plant vs Scott...well they are my 2 favorite so you can stop right there.
Next would be Roger Daltery, then Rod Stewart and then (I know he won't be on the list) but Eric Clapton

Something is very wrong when you see Bruce Dickinson defeat Rob Halford. What a joke. This poll is for "best rock singer's" and you if you ask anyone in the metal community, Halford is what EVERY metal vocalist is judged against!! PERIOD. As for the guys in this poll IMO it is going to be Mr.Plant vs. Mr. Mercury in the finals with RP taking the title.

I actually predict Mercury winning it. Not just because I would vote him over Plant, but because I know the Queen fans are vicious :P

With some of their selections, you can tell that GW is trying to appease everyone. Fair enough, but in reality, there were no great rock vocalists beyond the 80's. Most or all rock singers beyond that era just screamed, moaned, or growled.

Here are my Top 16 picks:

1) David Coverdale (WINNER)
2) Ronnie James Dio
3) Rob Halford
4) Paul Stanley
5) David Lee Roth
6) Ozzy Osbourne
7) Klaus Meine
8) Brad Delp
9) Sammy Hagar
10) Pat Benatar
11) Ann Wilson
12) Rik Emmett
13) Joe Elliot
14) Steve Perry
15) Lou Gramm
16) Ian Gillan

Interesting selection of "Best" rock singers. If you are talking about best "singers" you really have to include Ian Gillan and Paul Rodgers (two of the most obvious exclusions), and most certainly exclude Axl Rose, Ozzy, Mick Jagger, James Hetfield, and most definitely Kurt Cobain, regardless of their influence. It would be different if you were polling "Rock Front Men," or "Most Influential Front Men/Vocalists," but not singers.

Either way, Randy Blythe? Among the top 16 EVER? Randy Blythe and no Ian Gillan, Paul Rodgers, Geoff Tate, Klaus Meine, or Glenn Hughes? I'm sure GW is simply trying to "give props" to the younger crop of singers, but let's just face it, there has been infinitely more SCREAMING going on than actual singing in rock/metal over the past 20 years. Sure, there are some that sing somewhat, but only the smallest fraction could ever come close to any of the above exclusions (and that's stretching it), and not to mention: Steve Marriott, Graham Bonnet,Joe Lynn Turner, Jeff Scott Soto, David Coverdale, Ray Gillen, Jeff Keith, Sebastian Bach etc. etc. etc.

Hope this doesn't turn out like the English contest (either Music Radar or Premiere Guitar) where Axl Rose won. That was a travesty.

I always preferred Brian over Bon when it comes to AC/DC. I know I'm in the minority on that, but I ain't afraid to say it!

I choose Plant. Sometimes his singing can sound too girly/nasally to me, but other times he's astonishing. His vocal solo melody (if you could call it that, since there aren't words) during the later half of Achilles Last Stand is wonderful

Minority has company. I feel you on that. I lean more toward Brian as well.
