Hello Jeff,
Thank you.

avatar

JeffKitts

Sorry guys, was out all last week...almost finished uploading the full zip file of Sept videos (it's like 1.3GB), so hopefully by tomorrow we'll have a live download link for you all.

JK

avatar

CT_Eagle

Thanks Jeff. Glad to see that a .zip file will be available. It realy is a time saver and I appreciate the effort.

avatar

Rich5150

Jeff i really dont know how you put up with all the whiners on here you really must have super thick skin LOL. Guess what they say is right you cant please everyone. I for one dig the new website and format, and understand that there are other things to run with the mag and site and when content is up for download its up doesnt have to be the day of for cryin out loud.

avatar

JeffKitts

Thanks guys, appreciate that...and believe me, there are days I want to blow up the whole site out of spite, but my desire to receive another paycheck keeps me from losing my cool.

I just spent the last month arguing with the subscription department in order to get what I consider fair compensaton for the money I spent on the CDs that are no longer being produced. I was back to being happy subscriber of Guitar World. Then I returned home from vacation today. I went to download the videos for the Sept. issue and I see that there is not a link for downloading all of the videos in a single zip file. Jeff, please tell me that GW will continue to provide a single zip for these video downloads. Between work and family I don't have the time to download all of these videos individually. I would rather use that time to actually play my guitar. Starting the zip download and going to bed was working out great for me. I know I will not spend the time to download these files individually so they might as well not even exist as far as I am concerned.

With regards to the advertisements, I see that they are present when you view the videos online. If you download the video, the advertisement is not present. I did not test all the videos but the ones I looked at were presented as I described.

avatar

Jode

I have a question.
If coming out with a normal sized magazine for someone wanting to improve their playing, and then coming up with a genius idea of adding a CD with video backup was not such a great idea, WHY WAS IT DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE?
Oh, wait. I know, everyone has Internet service and can struggle to find what they are looking for while sifting through irratating, ridiculous advertisements to maybe find what they are looking for and then hit them again with more adds when they look at what they were looking for. Can I work there and help make things better?
I promise, not everyone who was enjoing disc issue mags does not like the larger size with included Justin Beeber posters and DEFINETLY does NOT have Internet access.
Sorry, but just like Guitar One, 'Ya Ruined A Good Thang'!

avatar

Jode

UPDATE: I decided to give it a shot and looked at one of the lesson videos that used to be on the disc-MY COMPUTER IS SLOW ENOUGH AND WHAT DO I GET____A FREAKING ADVERTISEMENT IN FRONT OF THE LESSON- All I can say is Bye and what a ridiculous way to end a relationship with what used to be a GREAT magazine deal.

avatar

Jode

I subscribe for the Disc version and now, just like Guitar One, YOU QUIT MAKING THEM AND TELL ME I CAN DOWNLOAD THE DISC ON THE WEBSITE.............................WHERE??????????????????? 2 things, customer service people need to know WHAT they are supposed to know and talking about, and THERE IS NO WHERE TO DOWNLOAD THE DISC THEY SAY YOU CAN DOWNLOAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please go back to sending out the disc, save money and shrink the magazine and PLEASE TAKE OUT THE POSTER, we are trying to get better at playing, not looking for Justin Beeber idols!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Your website is getting worse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

avatar

loveguitarz

Guitar World,

Please add a zip file to your subscribers?

This is really getting to be unfair.

avatar

Jode

I would agree but if I buy an issue at the store that "used to have a disc", I would like that too, otherwise, I agree that is an 'EXXCELLANT' idea.

avatar

h2odiehard

Just noticed this. On the side bar under the "Most Commented Articles", the top one has 28 comments. This one has 41. (now 42). Is that selected censorship so people don't know how pissed everyone is getting at this magazine?

avatar

h2odiehard

This is how it should be made available! Good job! Now how about making the rest of the website more user friendly. Make all the other tabs at the top of the website more organized. Make a master list on each tab broken down by artist with the date and if it has a video attached to it. I hate having to scroll through page after page of useless(to me) interviews and videos to find 1 I want to see. Try to add the past content of the discs. Then make this available to subscribers only. Then wow you have a reason for everyone who is cancelling to come back and to maybe get some more people interested in subscribing.
P.S. Quit making us click through adds to get anywhere on the site. Advertise on the sidebars. I refuse to buy anything associated with forced advertisement. On your site or any other.

avatar

pissedoffcustomer

Way to go guys you have provided the downloads! Great to see you are listening to the people that support you. I have been reading your magazine for over 20 years so for everyone complaining I remember there was a time when there was no videos at all and i still loved the mag then and now! cheers!

avatar

rrjhjp82

I waited a week, but you still haven't put up a link so we can download the entire Sept. issue with one single zip file. Can you please include that.
Also you should set this up like guitar digital where you have to put in your subscription no. Even though I am sure these files will be given away free by others, you should not make it easy to do so. Unless you do not value the hours it took to put this stuff together.
Your link is too small it should be on top where you have your home page, instead of how to change strings, that should be under lessons link.
Finally you may want to consider including PDF's for those of us that keep our stuff on computers.Another thing that would be great is including Midi files so we can open lessons in a guitar tab program like Guitar pro,or putting the lessons in guitar pro or powertab format

avatar

slinko9

Love this new format!!!!

avatar

JeffKitts

Video downloads are up...link at the top of the page. Sorry for the delay, we just got swamped getting the Oct. issue out the door.

avatar

dreamer_al

thank you jeff....i never lost faith.....lol

seems like i'm the only one who appreciates the "new" format........anyway...

avatar

JeffKitts

Appreciate that...and frankly, if people are only going to complain, I'm less inclined to drop in and help or explain things. But glad to know we have people like you in our corner!

avatar

h2odiehard

If we are only going to complain? Are you a 2 year old threatening us with the silent treatment? You should have had this in place before you ripped us off, I mean stopped sending us the discs. You should be on here monitoring this to help make your company look less bad to hopefully prevent a class action lawsuit. Sir you need to learn some professionalism! What happened to the customer is always right, not let them eat cake attitudes.

I received this e-mail from GW today...big deal...its the cheapo way out:

"Thank you for contacting Guitar World.

As of the May 2011 issue, the Guitar World disc content is no longer
available on Guitar World Digital player. We appreciate your interest
and usage and beta system Guitar World Digital. We've learned a lot
which is why, beginning with the July 2011 issue you will find all of
our audio and video lessons along with our video gear demos online at
www.guitarworld.com

We are correcting our records and extending your subscription to
compensate for any inconvenience caused. Your new expiration date will
be the April 2012 issue and will be reflected on your address label.

If we can be of further assistance, please let us know. To ensure your
future concerns are handled in a timely fashion, please include all
previous e-mail correspondence.

Sincerely,"
Samantha

Jode

Hello,
They forgot to tell you that now, in front of all the videos are RIDICULOUS ADVERTISEMENTS FIRST!, (Probably on the audio ones also)
Good Day

avatar

It is funny that Jeff Kitts has stopped replying to the comments as soon as they stopped providing the downloads. Can't admit that you guys couldn't keep your promises huh?

avatar

4shane76

I want the disc or I am canceling my sub. It was the only reason I got the sub in the first place.

avatar

spqr

According to Jeff Kitts "only a fraction" of readers actually use the disc. I guess that 99/100 is a fraction right? I have a hard time believing that the number of people using the disc is small, it is more likely that this is just another bad excuse. One of their original excuses for discontinuing the disc was that it was "environmentally irresponsible", so instead they increased the size format of the magazine and now package a poster as well - more paper. I don't think this is more "environmentally responsible." Guitar world is the source of an endless number of bad excuses.

This is just a way to increase net by bringing down expenses. But the true expense is the cost of dissatisfaction by the consumer, eventual loss of gross income due to falling subscriptions, and the class-action lawsuit that they will soon have on their hands.

avatar

Mulder007

I agree with you completely regarding the discs! GW's reason for discontinuing the CD because it was "Environmental irresponsible" IS a load of B.S., sorry. If it truly were other guitar magazines like TOTAL GUITAR and GUITAR TECHNIQUES wouldn't be STILL providing them (and have been doing so - every issue, since 1994)!

Guess who I'm renewing my subscription with, and who I'm not?

avatar

tmcleod

I must admit. I love the fact that I can sit and watch a commercial before every video. Boy, I sure do love's me some Five Towns College. Guitar World, you have become a joke. The way you have handled all of this is akin to a group of politicians trying to put a positive spin on something they have royally screwed up. The only difference in this situation is that the guitar nation is smart enough not to drink the kool aid. Guys, 'ya can't polish a turd and this is exactly what you are trying to do. You know the old trick, "watch my left hand while I pull the wool over your eyes with the other hand"? Well, that's exactly what you have tried to do to all of the subscribers. The sad thing about all of this is that I'm not even mad. I feel too betrayed and disappointed to be mad about this. I feel like the magazine actually thougt that I/we, the subscribers were dumb enough to fall for this. I feel let down and I have lost all respect for Guitar World. Goodbye and good ridance.

avatar

lespauljr

Online videos are useless for me. They buffer constantly and do not play smoothly all the way through. Return the downloads or I am through with this magazine.

avatar

twopips

No Disks, now no Download? No renew subscritions. You website is horrible btw. Does anyone care aboat job proformance there? I hope everyone else decides like me to use another company to suit their needs, becasue you guy have went to the best to the worst.
PS the people who acually gave the lessons are great, the website and it's how it is put together is what sucks ass.

avatar

armymdc4

what happened to "Guitar World Digital". You made us download it in preperation for the end of the CDs but then you just stopped using it. This would solve all these issues. The content was downloadable easy to use and came with corrisponding tabs with lessons (well for the columns). All you would have to do is make the monthly tabs and the tabs for the lessons downloadable. This would make all your readers happy and we would get what we pay for.

I must say Im pissed off as well and I have been a subscriber for almost 4 years. That class action suit they are threating, if somone had the balls to go thru with it it would stand. Only reason I say is the original agreement suppercedes anything you just put in the magazine. The agreement we paid for is not what we are getting and that is a breech of the agreement. Im not sure your legal team thought that tru when giving you the ok to do these changes to the magazine.

Basically, save yourself the trouble and reinstate Guitar World Digital and include the few extras that I mentioned.

avatar

reno7721

Total BS!! I paid for my script to get the discs and without any notice you decide to not include them. Wheres my reimbursement???
AND along with the Sept. issue, an offer to renew my script which isn't up until Feb 2012! I don't think so.
I'll be contacting my state attorney's office to file a complaint.

avatar

spqr

I am in the process of contacting a class-action lawyer. Continue your efforts with the state attorney and i will continue mine as well.

Personally I do not believe that Guitar World intends to continue posting the full download links on their site month after month. Additionally, due to their past history, I don't think that the existing links will be good after some time. We all subscribed to the magazine with the expectation that we would receive a CD-Rom which supplements the content of the magazine, and that we can maintain in our collections. Videos posted on the website to be taken down after some time is not commensurate or equivalent to that expectation at all.

avatar

Jode

Hello,
Please add me to all of this, everyone is summing it up pretty good, false advertising of a verbal "you can download the disc on our website" should be added but I don't have it recorded, maybe it's in writing somewhere? Sure hope I don't go on vacation and miss my opportunity to get my missed lessons filled with adds THAT I AM SUPPOSED TO HAVE ACCESS TO FOR YEARS AT MY LEISURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (WITHOUT adds!)

avatar

reno7721

I just mailed a letter today, 7/28/2011 to the Attorney General in my state. I will let you all know whats going on when I get a reply. I've been a subscriber for years. I wont renew my script unless GW gives us back what we paid for.

avatar

spqr

Jeff Kitts,

Where's the video downloads? Did you only provide downloads of the videos for the first two months in order to appease the complaints? Now that the complaints are gone, are you gonna pull the plug? You guys have a horrible track record in terms of keeping digital content online.

If there is still talk of a class action lawsuit for us subscribers, count me in! I have also decided not to renew my subscription, and I hope that you all will do the same!

avatar

nailedit2

Can you guys settle on a format and stick with it? Preferably one which contains the digital files we paid for. If it's going to be web-based, how about a little work on the user friendly aspect?

I've subscribed to GW for years but I am about ready to give up. I have a hard enough time finding the time to practice...I don't want to waste it searching your site for content I paid for, there are other options. With printed content going the way of the dinosaur, I would think you'd put a little more thought into customer satisfaction.

avatar

rr1071

If your are searching for lessons, try putting a site search into google like the example I show below, it will give you all the links to the lessons on GW for whatever artist you want.

For example if you want to see Van Halen lessons...

put this into your google:

site:guitarworld.com van halen lesson

another example: site:guitarworld.com john 5 lesson

etc...

To look at videos of previous issues go to search and type in the month and then disc videos!!

ie july 2011 disc videos

avatar

I'm deployed in Afghanistan and I've finally received a guitar through Amazon. I was looking forward to catching up on my past issues (online) since my magazines are piling up at home. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED? Where is everything? WTF?

avatar

socal6string

Where are the downloads?

avatar

uairforceone

I can not find anything I want on this website. This is horrible. I liked the guitar world digital, at least it was organized and I could download the videos I want. Now we don't even get the disc. Where can I find all the digital content from the past few years of disc? I thought it was supposed to be available here. This site is not easy to navigate and it's a huge confusing mess. Get a new web design that is better! GW website is no good.

jem7vsbl

How do I look at videos of previous issues?

avatar

cwimberly1

yeah, I would like to know too!
