"This was definitely a weird year for music."
That's how Guitar World Editor-In-Chief Brad Tolinski started off his best-of list for 2011, and it seems a fitting beginning for this one as well.
It's hard to know how 2011 will be remembered, especially given that we're still more than a week away from the ball dropping in Times Square to usher in 2012.
Maybe it's the prophecies derived from an ancient Mayan calendar or simply a stacked lineup of releases -- Black Sabbath, Van Halen, Lamb of God, Soungarden, ZZ Top and Rush, to name a few -- but it feels like 2012 has been looming over us all year long.
Regardless, this was a good year for music, in spite of what many would have you believe. Before you head into 2012 drooling over one of the most anticipated release years ever, let's look back at the 50 best albums of 2011.

Tedeschi Trucks "Revelator" should be top 3. Coming from a staunch metal head.

Where is Vader "Welcome to the Morbid Reich"? Also Korn's new album is shit. The old stuff was good though.

ARCH/MATHEOS - SYMPATHETIC RESONANCE
I know you can never make everyone happy with these lists but c'mon, how did this one get left out? Prog Metal fans have been waiting years for John Arch to team up with Jim Matheos again (it's been over 20yrs since "Awaken the Guardian"). Not to mention, "Sympathetic Resonance" is probably the most technical thing to come out of the Fates Warning camp and is overflowing with riffs, leads and solos. It's head and shoulders above much of what has been released this year.

Any best of list that doesn't include Obscura's Omnivium is worthless.
This is hands down one of the best guitar albums of 2011, and a tech-death masterpiece.

What kind of list is this? Where is Feline Wiener Taco's "Spunk" and Meat Finger's "Tools of Mundane Fruit" albums? Those are way better than Korn.

I don't really know a lot of bands on this list, but there is one thing that makes me mad. Trivium's album should be WAY higher than it is. I mean, it is an amazing album. I've looked up some of the music on this list and Trivium is way better. Asking Alexandria is #3. If they are #3, then Trivium should be at least #2 cause Trivium is better. I wouldn't mind if Trivium wasnt't in the top 10 or something, but they should definitely be in the top 20. Some of these bands just get ranked high because of their reputation. Like the new Korn album....it SUCKS except for like 2 or 3 songs.

please stop pretending that black veil brides and asking alexandria are actually good at making music, the only reason they sell so much is cause teenage girls and guys that wish they were girls like the way they look.
