Gus G., best known as Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist and the leader of Firewind, has announced the March 18 release of his debut solo album, I Am the Fire, in North America. The album will be released internationally on Century Media Records and will come out March 17 in Europe.
When Gus G. became Ozzy Osbourne’s axman in 2009, the Greek shredder quickly became as scrutinized as the celebrated guitarists that preceded him in Ozzy’s band, including Zakk Wylde, Jake E. Lee and Randy Rhoads. While his predecessors had relied on Marshall amps, the core of Gus G.’s sound came from high-wattage Blackstar Series One heads.
Here are licks that will clean up any guitarist’s picking technique and give them the control and accuracy to improve their ability to achieve the speed and fluidity they desire. Though there are exceptions to this rule, make sure the alternating pick strokes are accomplished with firm, yet relaxed grip of the pick and a rotation of the pick hand wrist similar to that of turning a key in a door.
The Jason Becker Not Dead Yet 2 Concert will take place 7 p.m. January 23 at Slim's in San Francisco, California. The guitar-heavy bill will feature Steve Morse, Uli Jon Roth, Richie Kotzen, Gus G of Firewind and Ozzy Osbourne's band, Michael Lee Firkins, Jude Gold, Gretchen Menn and more.
Earlier this week, Ozzy Ozbourne and Firewind guitarist Gus G stopped by the Guitar World studio to hang out, shoot some licks for our Lick of the Day app and show off some new gear, including his brand new Blackstar Blackfire 200 amp.
