Q: What is Guitar World Digital?
A: It’s a new way to access the Guitar World magazine CD-ROM, as well as download and enjoy Guitar World products, such as Guitar World instructional DVDs and Guitar World Legends magazines. Guitar World Digital allows you to access lessons anytime by delivering high-quality video directly to your computer using a new media platform called the MOD Machine.
Q: What is MOD Machine?
A: MOD Machine is the digital media distribution software used for Guitar World Digital, which runs on Mac OS X Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
Basic system requirements:
1. Display resolution 1024 x 768 or larger
2. Reliable broadband internet connection
3. At least 1.5 GHz processor (Intel recommended), 1 GB RAM
Q: What products can I access on Guitar World Digital?
A: The Guitar World Digital Product library will include Guitar World DVDs, Guitar Legends and Guitar World Magazine monthly discs for purchase. The product will be downloaded immediately after purchase and available for access any time through the Guitar World Digital Player, even if you’re offline. Also, current Guitar World Subscribers and Newsstand readers will have free access to the current month’s Guitar World monthly disc.
Q: I purchased an issue of Guitar World from a newsstand, how do I access the disc content on Guitar World Digital?
A: Starting with the November 2010 issue, access codes to download the Guitar World disc content are included with all U.S. and Canadian newsstand copies. Locate your issue and open the magazine to the CD pouch bind-In. Open the flap to reveal your unique 10-digit access code.
Q: I am a Guitar World subscriber, how do I access the disc content on Guitar World Digital?
A: If you are a current Guitar World subscriber, use your account number to access the Guitar World disc content. You can find your access code on your mailing label located on the front of the current issue or on your renewal insert. Here’s an example:
Q: Now that I have located my Access Code, how do I download Guitar World disc content?
A: Launch the Guitar World Digital Player and look for the Disc Download icon on the top by the Guitar World Digital logo. Click the icon and follow the step-by-step instructions screens to download the disc.
Q: What if my Guitar World subscription expires, will I still have access?
A: Starting with the November 2010 issue, magazine subscribers will qualify for the Guitar World disc content released within their subscription period. Just return to the Guitar World Digital program each month and you’ll find the new content appears automatically. Once your subscription expires, you will no longer have free access to new issues but you will always have access to past issue content from your previous subscription.
Q: What if I want to access the Guitar World disc content but do not have an access code?
A: The Guitar World disc content is available for purchase in the Product section of the Guitar World Digital player.
Q: Can I share my code with a friend or family member?
A: No. The codes found inside the newsstand copies are unique for the purchaser. The subscriber codes are also unique and may only be accessed by the subscriber with their account number.
Q: I’ve downloaded the player, but I cannot find it on my computer?
A: For PC users, the Guitar World Digital icon should pop up on your desktop. If it does not, go to Hard Drive > Program Files > Leaping Brain > Guitar World Digital to access the Guitar World Digital Application. Windows users can create a shortcut in their Start Menu or desktop by right-clicking the application. Mac users will find the software in Hard Drive > Applications > Guitar World Digital. Mac users can create a shortcut in your Dock.
Q: I have an older computer that doesn’t play Quicktime smoothly. Can I still use Guitar World Digital?
A: Yes, try the very processor-efficient alternate player. To change this, open the Guitar World Digital Player and click the “Options” button in the upper right hand corner. Select the option “Use Alternate Player” to change the setting. You can also switch back to Quicktime playback through this menu. If you use Quicktime, you will want to download the latest version of QuickTime to your computer.
Q. What if I do not have Quicktime player installed on my computer?
A. You can use the alternate player offered through the system. On the main screen of the program, click the “options” button and select “use alternate player”. The new player will download and install onto your system.
Q. My video is not playing back smoothly. How do I fix this?
A. Try using the alternate player offered through the system. On the main screen of the program, click the “options” button and select “use alternate player”. The new player will download and install onto your system. Once you see the “alternate player has been activated” message above My Stuff, try playing your course again.
Q: Can I enjoy my purchases even if I’m not connected to the internet?
A: Yes, as long as you have downloaded the entire product to your computer, you will be able to access that information offline.
Q. What if my hard drive crashes or I want to access my purchases from a different computer?
A. Once you purchase a product from Guitar World Digital, it is yours to view wherever you wish. To access your purchases on a different computer, simply download and install Guitar World Digital from the website as you did before. Launch the digital player and click the “options” button on the upper right hand corner and choose “authorize this computer”. Then, fill in the e-mail address you used to purchase your courses on the first computer and click OK. After a short pause, the products you have purchased will show up under “My Stuff” and you will be able to download and view them at your convenience.
