Ernie Ball recently announced their new line of electric bass and guitar strings, made out of the most magnetically active material – Cobalt. Ernie Ball's patent pending advancement in technology stems from a nine-year pursuit in researching materials that give guitarists and bassists a new-and-improved voice.
Guitar World checked out the Music Man booth at last week's 2012 Winter NAMM show in Anaheim, California, to see what's new -- namely the Music Man JP12 guitar. That's JP is in John Petrucci, of course. The model is the video is finished in Cherry Sugar and has a basswood body, LiquiFire Crunch Lab pickups, and ebony fretboard and stainless steel frets. As the video will show you, there's to see on this guitar -- including the mono and stereo jacks and the magnetic switch.
Today's lick is a sequence of fast, descending arpeggios based on the E Aeolian mode (E F♯ G A B C D) and performed in a deliberate two-notes-per-string pattern. I use strict alternate picking throughout the entire lick, beginning on a downstroke.
