When the book is closed on Metallica and the final history written, you won't find the word "unambitious" anywhere. In fact, with a busy European festival season nearly behind them, their own Orion Music festival looming, a 3D movie in the works and a new album on the horizon, Metallica are looking to accomplish more this summer than most bands do in a career.
Yesterday, Metallica kicked off their summer European tour at Synot Tip Arena in Prague, Czech Republic, a tour which will see them play their self-titled 1991 album — best known as The Black Album — in its entirety.
Metallica have posted yet another video feature from their DVD Orgullo, Pasión, y Gloria: Tres Noches en la Ciudad de México. You can check out footage of the band performing "Fight Fire With Fire" in front of 150,000 die-hard Metallica fans in Mexico City below.
In conjunction with the MusiCares charity, Metallica are offering special bracelets made from the guitar/bass strings of James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo. Proceeds from the sale of the bracelets will go toward the MusiCares charity.
In honor of 25 years of partnership, ESP is launching a brand new line of Kirk Hammett signature guitars, including the KH-DC, LTD KH-DC, and LTD KH-25, just three of ESP's 19 new products featured at this year's Winter NAMM.
As anyone who's followed Metallica's career can tell you, the group's members are rarely at a loss for words. But when Kirk Hammett recently learned that he'd become the first inductee into the Guitar World Hall of Fame, he was rendered speechless for a solid minute or two. "It totally took me by surprise," he says. "Especially since our profile has been so weird lately. It's been very non-musical, you know?"
