I can see and hear what is going on in Figure 2 but the tab is confusing as hell. What's with the smaller font number and the forward slash?

That pentatonic scale is a A minor that starts on the 5th fret that you mention in your lesson. A maj pentatonic is the same fingering but starts on F#(2nd fret)

Thank Goodness someone said it, even if it was a sax player.
The dreaded pentatonic solo up the scale, down the scale.
If I never hear another insipid, banal solo like the above described, I will be more than happy.
If that's all one can do, sell one's guitar.
