Metallica have announced they'll return to Mexico this summer, one month after their Orion Music + More weekend, which takes place June 23 and 24 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. While they're south of the border, the band will unveil a new 140-by-50-foot stage featuring visual elements spanning Metallica's 30-year career.
It's hard to juggle all the news surrounding Metallica these days -- summer shows, a new album, a 3D film, their own music festival -- so we can only guess what those guys are going through. In conjunction with the MusiCares charity, Metallica are offering special bracelets made from the guitar/bass strings of James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo. Proceeds from the sale of the bracelets will go toward the MusiCares charity.
Metallica have announced the release of their Beyond Magnetic EP as a limited-edition silver vinyl pressing exclusively for Record Store Day. The EP -- which features four previously unreleased tracks from the Death Magnetic sessions -- has already seen a digital and CD release.
One of the factors that led to Jason Newsted's departure from Metallica in January of 2001 was frontman James Hetfield's reluctance to allow his bass player to indulge in side projects during the band's downtime.
