What are you guys doing? Michael Jackson is barely cold and you are already trying to lavish his throne onto, dare I say it, " a white boy named John Mayer." This is an insult. Must you boys use your control of media to bully you agenda? I don't recall any suggestions for a new King of Rock and Roll or simply put, "The King." Not suprisingly Elvis get to keep his moniker. Gee, I wonder why? When Bruce dies will you rush to appoint a new Boss? The King of Blues is also a rediculous notion. John knows how to play it, not feel it. Besides their are plenty of pretenders to that throne, but that's another topic for another day. During a time when many black actresses have to prostitute themselve a play romantic roles opposite white males just to work in hollywood and elswhere, on TV and the Big Screen, my question is this, "where is this so called "liberal media" I keep hearing about?" When you guys can get away with this crap, these are indeed great days for the tender white male ego.

Wow! This seems nice! When making purchase of a product, like for instance magazine, doing a little bargaining wouldn't spend way more than you need to. Obviously, trying to secure discounts on some things is a fool's errand (clothes, food, small level stuff) but other things, like cars, homes, appliances and so forth are completely subject to haggling. Salesmen will be anxious to close (especially now) and just because you need to make a big purchase doesn't mean you can't be saving money at the same time.

SRV -Cold Shot.Heck yes. oh yeah. And John Meyer is a versatile guitarist with talent. Didn't you guys see him on Chappelle's Show?

John Mayer being refered to as "The King of The Blues" is an insult to BB King, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, Robert Johnson, Joe Bonamassa, Muddy Waters, Guitar World Readers, and us guitarists. If John Mayer is the King Of The Blues, then he would stop his sissy pop crap and play blues. I don't care what's in it. If it says something stupid like that on the cover, I'm protesting it til it's corrected!

BOTTOM LINE! DON'T LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN!

Shouldn't GW be putting people who are currently working with blues music on the cover? Like John Mayer? This is like them putting Them Crooked Vultures on the cover and people getting upset that CCR isn't there instead.
I would guess that people only know him for his pop tunes because that's all they're exposed to without actually listening to his music. That being said, the magazine could have put something bluesy off of "Try" for the tab instead of "Waiting on the World to Change"...

If Guitar World really wanted to do a "Blues Issue", I wouldn't think Mayer would be the place to start. Buddy Guy, ROBERT JOHNSON, B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Otis Rush, John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Albert Collins, the list goes on. These might be the blues men to put on a cover. Not some pretty boy, who's known more for his tabloid garbage and who he's dating this week than his six string abilities. I will be skipping this issue. Cheers!!

Apparently John Mayer is a really good guitarist,
he just doesn't show it in his music for some reason.

Even though he's a fellow alum of my dawgs, it's quite a joke that the cover poses the question of Mayer being king of the blues with a Joe Bonamassa article in the same issue. On his best day he wishes he were as good as Bonamassa

UGAFAN....You must not have listened to very much JM music other than his pop stuff. Mayer and Bonamassa are absoultely two of my favorite guitarists and I have seen both of them live several times (JB just a few days ago). They are equally talented at channeling their influences of Hendrix, Gibbons, Vaughn, Guy, King, etc. Bonamassa stays very true to his rock/blues influences but Mayer has something else to express through different styles and does incorporate blues into his performance of pop music. I think that is refereshing and if you read (or have read) the article with Mayer you should understand.

I just got this issue yesterday!

well i dnt know that much about john mayer but im willing to give him a try. i was kinda supprised when i got this issue cuz usually the preview is up before the magazine gets out so idk if i got mine extremely early or maybe the way the websites been with the 2 holidays but o well. gotta say dont like the tabs they put in this issue

avatar

hoeycow

It's about time they had a blues issue. Most rock music has roots in the blues. I'm waiting for the gagging about John Mayer being on the cover as well. Think what you want about his pop stuff but his blues playing is great. If you don't like that then admire him for blasting through most of the A list ladies available in Hollywood. :)

blacksoul62

I don´t undestand why you don`t show the tabs
