hi, how do i access the digital player?

I totally agree with basically all the comments on the choice of tabs. For some of us who have been long time readers but not gifted enough to be able to play classic songs from certain genre's note for note with out the help of tabs,it sucks to see either the same songs constantly re-tabbed or obscure songs that no one wants to play tabbed. Kings of Leon PLEASE. What about classic influential metal bands such as EXODUS. To this day I have not seen one tab anywhere in any publication of this totally underrated band. How bout a little Heathen, or Forbidden or dare I say tabs from Metallica,Slayer,Megadeth or Anthrax that havn't been tabbed. As much as I love 80's metal how bout a bit more Atreyu(Anything from Lead Sails or Congregation of the Damned) or A Day To Remember(A Plot To Bomb The Panhandle)to boot. How bout some BLS or Ozzy that hasn't been tabbed. There are countless genre's,bands & songs to tab. If I could I'd start my own mag,tab what people wanted to hear & put GW outta business.

Im 15. Im sad to say I've heard of all the bands and songs except the last one. I like Black Sabbath and thats it. I have no desire to learn any of the other songs. I looked at some of the other songs that have been in the magazine and they ARE A MILLION TIMES BETTER!!! Van Halen, Nirvana, AC DC, Rush, Pink Floyd, Yes, Led Zeppelin and a bunch of other great bands. Id much rather learn some classic rock song than some scremo death metal song. The one by Escape the Fate Im pretty sure that song is the song where the music video is exactly like the Van Halen music video for Hot For Teacher a song a million times better than every song by those bands combined could ever hope to be. Please! Let me learn Hot For Teacher and not Situations!! I guess its good that they havent tabbed any Justin Bieber songs...That will be a very sad day if they do that.

Guitarworld is a great magazine, I like rock and metal but they turn me on to music I normally would not think twice about, thank you GW.

avatar

mrspike74

next month will be the greatest issue ever, they will finally declare vampire weekend as the greatest band ever!!! Beating out the like of led zepplin, ac/dc, the who, the b 52s and the guitarist will have a statue built in his honor by such people as EVH, Eric Clapton, Muddy waters, and a special resurrection of SRV with only the broken E string from the same guitar that wrote the one hit wonders Kings of Leon only hit!!! All voted on by you!!!! somehow.

Sorry i fell i have to get my moneys worth some where since i'm not getting it from this magazine. Have a nice day.

avatar

phat_joe

My Chemical Romance SUCKS!!! There are so many better bands From New Jersey than them. Just do me a favor, if they ever get interviewed again ask the fat ass lead singer if he still tapes himself up before he goes on stage.

Well Guitar World, congratulations; this is the backlash you get and deserve. Whore out the same bands and artists year and year, issue after issue? You get readers stuck in the past, who refuse to acknowledge or appreciate that music as a whole has changed with time. Probably the same people who write off pop or hip hop without having a clue for either.

Promote tough guy bands like Pantera and Lamb of God time after time without taking many chances, and you get meathead metal 'fans' who write off anything they can't comprehend or deem to be noise. These people consider themselves authorities on metal, yet completely ignore anything that's not popular, old, or outside of their comfort zone. Death metal and other forms of extreme metal have been developing on their own since the 80s, with fans and bands globally, and yet these 'experts' write off anything with 'screaming' vocals. Sorry guys, you're not metal fans, you're more like fairweather fans.

Hopefully you guys lose a few dumb ass readers. Likewise, hopefully you realize that instead of breeding open minded musicians, you're breeding rock guitarists who can't figure out songs by ear and don't even try. People who look at music outside of their comfort zone or taste and bash it with the highest level of ignorance. You get people who can't get their heads out of the past, and players stuck in the same pentatonic boxes and tired blues patterns. Extraordinary players like Jeff Beck don't need your help (or oral services) at this point in their career, guys.

I am not a guitar player but a host of a metal radio show. I have been reading the post here most of you just saying how much you hate this or that. I see a lot on this been done to much or this is new and I wont listen WTF? I talk to many guitar players in bands and you be surprised how many styles of music they listen to. How are you ever going to be the best you can be as a player if you don't go in to it with a open mind..... won't listen to a band cause you don't know it that is just plane stupid you might find you like it! Maybe some of the music I listen to for my radio show is not my favorite but I always listen with a open mind. Sometimes I am blown away with the music! I think you should always give things a chance you might be surprised what you find out there you do like you did not know.

avatar

timstar78

Kings Of Leon on the cover? Seriously? Especially when there is a feature on a true guitar icon like Eric Johnson in the same issue. A new low for GW...

avatar

joeman

Did you really feel the need to tell me you are a physicist? That must mean you are educated. I dont care

avatar

zappa73

To answer your question Joeman - yes, I'm a physicist. I was using an alternate spelling of a common coarse term for (1) effect and (2) to avoid the internet filters. It's a bad habit, similar to overusing punctuation for effect (e.g. multiple question marks).

FYI You're only reinforcing my point here.

avatar

joeman

zappa73??????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Beeyotches????????????????????? Did you graduate grammar school?

avatar

zappa73

I'm so happy with Guitar World! As a 37 year old....wait, my age doesn't matter.

The only thing being 37 will help me with here is give perspective. If Guitar World gives the same familiar Tabs then people will complain that it's already been done. If GW gives new stuff then the old guard will say I DON'T RECOGNIZE IT!

If they give the blues the Metalheads beyotch, and so on.

Recently we had a classic acoustic issue (Beatles on the cover), classic rock (Rolling Stones), and 90's Grunge (Soundgarden). This is the first "New School" issue in a while and we have the Male Guitarist version of an Oprah Winfrey Audience.

Beeyotches.

I love this guitar magazine for being so versatile and covering so much ground. I'm excited to see the new, love refining the old...and generally so lucky to get so much guitar info (lessons, history, tabs) for the cost of 2 cups of coffee.

I love you guys! Thanks for the efforts!

I wish now i never renewed my subscription in december for another year. This issue just sucks! Hopefully you guys can transcribe some good music for once and stop shoving this garbage down our throats. This one will go in the garbage where it belongs.

avatar

rjim

So, 12 issues a year, 5 tabs per issue: 60 songs a year. Even if there's an issue with songs I can't use, or even two, I can live with that. I don't stop listening to the radio when they play a song I don't like, never heard of, or have heard before.

I'm amused at the people complaining that they've never heard of Escape the Fate - I hadn't either, except that GW has had an article about them in the last 2 issues. I've still never heard their music, but because I read the magazine, at least I've heard of them.

avatar

corbdog7

Hate to keep beating a dead horse but the more issues I get the less I'm starting to like Guitar world. It does seem like you are catering to 14 year old kids. Why not try and show them what great music is? I'm 40 years old and grew up with hair metal and have to admit a lot of that music sucks too. But there's a ton of stuff from the 70s thru now that crushes some of the stuff that is being transcribed lately. Kings of Leon sucks in my opinion. I'm not saying can the new stuff, just don't have it dominate your issues or you will run the risk of losing your audience. By the way guys that are 30 to 50 are the ones with all the cash!

avatar

stevereedrocks

I have to agree last few issues very Dissapointing!!!! YEA SABBATH Hole in THE Sky!! WAS GREAT But you do print the same old songs over &over & over the stand by's How bout some nugget's Like The Writ/ or Symtom of the Universe, Planet Caravan,on the Sabbath side or Some AC/DC on theRock side like Riff Raff , Down Payment Blues, Beat'n round the Bush,Shake a Leg.....Some Hendrix besides P. Haze,Foxy lady...... DIG GUYS THERE'S a LOT OF GREAT Music To be TABED PLEASE!!!!!! This Scream O or Emo Crap and Black/norse/Death/hail satan is Crap IMHO. Idea this style of "music" Could be Put into a PROMO SPINOFF MAG.i.e. FOR a month or two? See what sell's the best ? But remember WE THE READERS SUBSCRIBERS Want New TAB's of the great bands artist's; you hit a home run about twice a year with cool tab's like Hole in the sky, Diary of a Madman, Long way to the Top Tighten UP GUY's & Up the IRONS!!! And what about DIO? He should get a COVER a Lesson covering his career a Gem for a Song. some thing that has'nt been tabed. Please do some thing FAST and are you going to keep the DISK or NOT the up charge adds up But the content is not adding up.

asking alexandria is horrible. they're one of those bands that combines techno with hardcore/metal. who ever combined techno with metal is a fucking dumbass, i hate it. all the kids in my school (the ones that arent into pop, hip hop, rap and other shit) listen to techno metal, dubstep, and pop punk/metal, and it all fucking sucks. to see guitar world now getting into that commercial, sold out untalented shit is sad. it leterally is one guy screaming random shit, not even words, with guitars playing open string power chords downtuned to like Bb to sound "heavier" and they play the smae chord over and over. it's fucking horrible. to top it off, these bands have a fucking pop singer singing retarted shit over it all, sometimes with auto-tune. the fact that music like Attack Attack! and asking alexandria even exists pisses me off, but the fact that people like it is even wores. and i do like metal with screaming like death metal and black metal, and pretty much any metal that's not techno or pop, but this is totally different. the death metal screamers actually sound good at screaming, and actually say shit, but these screamers just go AAAAWWWWWRRRRRHHHHGGGGGGG and it sounds fucking terrible.

townshend71

The only two songs that are worth being tabbed are "War Pigs" and "Hallelujah." I disagree with several of you stating that every issue is filled with BS tabs. Last month was Black Keys' "Tighten Up" and before that was Macca's piano transcription for "Maybe I'm Amazed." Few of the core bands (what many of you are calling death metal) haven't actually been in recent issues. I was thinking before this issue that they were moving in the right direction, finally getting some new, listenable music (The Black Keys, Cage the Elephant). But this issue they went back to 2 core tabs and did 2 pop songs. "Animal" is good but not really a guitar song. And Kings of Leon, you guys wrote a story about their new album which is the best thing since their spectacular southern rock debut and you chose their 2nd sucky pop song (you already did "Use Somebody")! Can you guys form any direct connections between your stories and the tabs? Last issue you guys threw in more crappy ones and only did one song to go along with your huge '90s cover story. Why not some 'Pinkerton' or Rage Against the Machine? What's Andy Aledort there for? I hope he spent all his time on "Hallelujah" and a bit of "War Pigs."

And btw, I was looking at your book the other day, you guys wrote about Jack White quite a few times in the early 2000s, once even with Jimmy Page (another overused interviewee). When will you guys even think about him again? He's reviving vinyl with his own record company if you haven't heard!

wow, a bad issue. a rare miss

avatar

lbra73

Well this is the end for me, Feb is my last issue of my subscription, and I won't be renewing. The articles are useless, they are nothing more than lengthy advertisements. The tabs are of obscure bands and songs no one has ever heard of. In short, the magazine is worhtless to me. I just hope a better Guitar magazine pops up but I won't hold my breath.

avatar

dude_man0101

I have an idea, let's bitch about songs by bands we don't know, let's bitch about having to broaden our horizons. Some the shit this magazine over the past couple of years has been just that. How about someone on this page quit bitching about all the shit, put this magazine down and actually pick up their guitars and come up with something of their own. Maybe you do need to cancel your subscription.

avatar

karv9458

I'll admit, I am excited about the Sabbath cover, since March 05, I've never seen that tab, so I won't complain about it being tabbed so much. So how bout this GW, tab out some Protest the Hero or Between the Buried and Me, Nevermore maybe, some stuff with a legitimate challenge.

avatar

mrspike74

I made a comment on last months issue about how crappy the mag. has gotten. Its great to see other people that feel the same way. I felt bad for a few days at what i wrote, then i picked up the issue (with soundgarden) thinking maybe i was to hasty. I dumped it into the trash after looking at only a few pages. I'd rather see another Zack Wylde or a full month devoted to the Beatles (again) than the crap in this new issue. I to will not be renewing my subscription because GW doesn't care about it readers, they only care about writing half assed columns written by rejects from Rolling Stone magazine. You know, people who wouldn't know real music if it bit them on the ass. Do you guys get to vote for the rock n roll hall of fame to? seems like it.

avatar

gedlee

Yeah, GW has lost another subscriber. If the other people posting here can't see that this magazine has gone completely down the shitter over tha past few years then they need to wake up. It's not about GW transcribing these "newer" bands, it's about transcribing SHIT! PERIOD! There's plenty of new music they can transcribe without transcribing garbage like this. I thought about it before I renewed last time, they made the decision easy for me this time around.

Crystalblues

WTF GW? Worst issue ever. Kings of leon-really, My magazine will be on fire, literally.

avatar

necrosis

You all need to stop your bitchin'. First of all, how old are you people and how long have you been playing guitar for? How many freakin' decades does it take you people to learn Stairway to Heaven? You all started playing when you were young and never moved on. Wake R.I.P. Van Old guys and move on. How long are you going to strangle the life out of this magazine? You have had your geezer music tabbed out so many times that it gets repeated over and over again since the 1980's. It is time to pass on the baton. It is bad enough that you all are sticking us with your SSI debt for a program that we will never see, but can you at least allow some life and vitality get back into Guitar World?

Oh, and as far as the ignorant person who has a problem with death metal I have some news for you: THERE IS NO DEATH METAL IN THIS ISSUE! There hasn't been a death metal tab in Guitar World for 7 months. At most you might see two death metal tabs a year you ignorant dweeb. Get your facts straight before you mouth off! And as far as being sick of something, I'll trade you two tabs a year for all of the endless classic rock repeats that this magazine has milked for years and years. What they need is some black metal tabbed out which they have never done.

avatar

freddiefingers

forget kings of leon, i'll take kings X, has GW ever transcribed them?

avatar

rockshow72

O.K. I'm almost 40 and I love all kinds of music. I have quite the knowledge of music from all decades. I know lots of newer crappy bands by name only-however the stupid songs they decided to transcribe this month-not so much. I can honestly admit I have never heard of 3 of these bands?! WTF GW?? What is this junk they are force feeding down our throats?! Must be some emo shit. Like the previous posts, I agree with the horrible transcriptions and the lack of SO MANY SONGS that have NEVER BEEN TRANSCRIBED! Hey you want new emo bands? O.K. put 1 song a month if you must. JUST ONE, NOT THREE!! And the rest put songs that we would all love to see in print. I have written these fools at GW in the past, and I've actually gotten responses. But they are just generic "run around" my complaint answers. So I think we should all write in yet again, and demand they transcribe a song a month that has NEVER been in print in any sister publication, any Hal Leonard Tab Book, or in any form-ever! A songs a month! I would ask for 2, but that would never happen, so yeah how about just one simple song GW? I bet your subscribers would actually grow in 2011.
Sabbath is awesome-but as everyone already graciously pointed out, it has been transcribed about 3 dozen times. I gave them props for printing Hole In The Sky a while back. Now that was cool. Jeff Buckley, he's o.k. But Kings Of Leon may possibly be the worst new band on the planet. (well this decade, not brand new) Maybe it's my age, but I just don't get that music. No structure, no hook, and it just sucks. Nothing good about it....and those other 3 nasty bands I'm sure are in the same category. O.k. I'm done! GW-please get your heads out of your asses!!!!

avatar

hyuk17

I agree with the last two posters. Never ever heard of three of bands with songs in the issue. I had the misfortune of having to sit through the Kings of Leon a few years back as they opened for U2. If their the best out there, well...guess we all know music has gone down the toilet.

avatar

lukist

Guitar World, you just lost a subscriber. This magazine just keeps getting worse and worse every month. I mean, this is the first time I only recognize one of the bands in your transcriptons. Did you guys forget about the guitarists that truly shaped the genre most us listen to? Plus, I'm sick of all the dick-sucking on every single article I read. Yes, we like to think of guitar players as gods, but they're still people. And what's with all the damn ads? Seriously, I've never seen a magazine with so many annoying ads.

avatar

jimmy60

i agree with lbra73 i will not be renewing my subscription with GW its been getting worse and worse i dont even recognize most of the songs they transcribe anymore or the bands im more of a classic rock to hard rock to classic metal and blues and blues rock type of player, seems like GW has lost touch with what most people want and what most people listen to, they seem to be catering to the 14 yr old kids, with all this death metal and bullshit that u cant even understand, music(guitar) should be tasteful, melodic,it should move and flow, not this bs u cant even understand where the guitarists play as fast as they possibly can and it sounds like a bunch of noise!thrash is trash!even metallica realized that and came out with the load reload album which i think is their best music to date.its time people speak up and tell GW that there is so much really great music thats been around for a longtime that they've yet to transcribe,i know they try to keep up with the times but its the TYPE of guitar music that they are choosing to transribe which really SUCKS! wake up GW most of us that buy ur magazine are not 15 in fact id guess that most of the people that subscribe regularly are probably 30 and up, and we dont listen to that BS..KEEP IT REAL! if u are into that kind of music then thats fine..keep it out of OUR MAGAZINE! if u have to print that shit keep it to 1or 2 songs at most! or u wont have a magazine much longer! WHATISAYGOES

The Final Episode

....are the last three song titles

avatar

lbra73

Too many obscure song choices every month, I wish they would stick to songs by bands that people actually recognize. Only good song this month is War Pigs but it's been done before.

avatar

hyuk17

Weak choice of transcriptions, except the Sabbath one, which has been transcribed many times before.

avatar
