As a member of GW since they used to only put one song of tab in each issue, I think we all know how it works by now. Advertising is what makes all things possible. Thats why GW is still alive. Back then G.F.T.P.M. used to be my favorite, because of all the tabs, but where are they now. Generally, whoever is on the cover, is not covered in tab. I like a mix of all, that they throw out there, but after all these years of collecting the magazine, it does get tiring of all the repeats. Would be nice to see some different stuff, not really new stuff, just different.

There's jimi then there's eddie and then there's the great Dime. Guys like angus and malcolm young made me want to get a guitar. But,dime, dime made me actually want to play the guitar. I just started listening to pantera on a regular basis four months before his fatal shooting. Dimes music has changed my life forever and with that I am deeply thankful his music helped through one of my toughest years. I dream of the day when the abbots and phil can put there differences behind themselves because dime would want it that way. And when that day comes dime will be smiling with an ear to ear black tooth grin. Getcha Pull! RIP DIMe

I think the bigger issue with guitar world is the massive amount of adverts that we get an eyeful of every month. Its nice to see new products etc etc, but its getting a bit much when you have to turn ten pages in just to read the contents! Not to mention the bullsh*t mens chatline adverts etc that plague the last 20 pages of the magazine. We buy it to read about the musicians we admire and the gear we love to use, its not a damn trading post! More Guitar, less adverts i say!! RIP DIME, sadly missed!

Well said guitaristgator. My point is that the magazine has lost it's edge. Regardless of which genre it is covering, the editors are playing it so safe. I think that the editors need to do a shake up and get some new blood in the office. As much as love Jimmy Page and EVH, there is no way that they need to be on multiple covers per year. The old guys at GW are definitely playing favoritism.

But I mean everyone does have favorites. There's no way for them to just soullessly pick out bands; they do kinda naturally gravitate towards certain people. And they also tend to go with what's popular at the time, covering what seems to be what everyone's interested in.

With so many great songs on Vulgar and Driven, to put two acoustic songs from Foo Fighters and Clapton is such a shame. I hope that there isn't a interview with Dimes girlfriend either. She rags all over Phil and it bores me. I will buy this issue, but I know I will feel cheated on the tabs. I know.... how about another "Guitar Legends" issue and some tabs on unprevious tabbed songs like.... Throes of Rejection, By Demons Be Driven, Regular People, Slaughtered, Rise, No Good, Hard Lines and Sunken Cheeks, 25 Years, Shedding Skin, Use My Third Arm, the list goes on. Any one of these would be great for something like that. Sorry if I didn't include anything off of Cowboys. I like those two albums better. RIP DIME

avatar

mikeshuggah

Absolutely! Put him in Guitar Legends. I agree with carodon, let's see a "25 Years" tab.

Hard to believe Dime's been gone five years. But never forgotten.

Dime should be on every cover. His solo on Throes Of Rejection is possibly one of the best solos in history. He was truly one with his guitar. Hey Guitar World, the song trannies should more closely match the cover artist. I mean Creed, James Gang, Clapton, Foo Fighters? They're all great in their own way, I just feel that Dime deserves a more appropriate issue. You say yourselves how much a part of your magazine he was.

avatar

I have to respectfully disagree. The point of Guitar World is to be about all things Guitar; ranging in ALL styles from Rock to Jazz to Metal to Blues and back again. The transcriptions are generally supposed to be varied enough to appeal to all the kinds of people that read Guitar World. Guitar World is read by all styles of guitar players and reflects that with it's content. And just because Dimebag is one the cover does not mean that it's ALL ABOUT DIMEBAG, it just means that the Cover Story is about Dimebag. That aside, the issue and CD look totally kickass. Althought I would have like to see "Walk", "CFH" or "Floods"
