jacks on the cover becuase hes and amazing guitarist, producer and all around musician. one of the only newer guitarists keeping the blues alive AND he can shred with a slide. he's even shared the stage with the stones.

The director picked those three for the movie...they're on the cover for that particular reason. Is this a monthly debate on here about who should be on the cover? And folks putting down fellow musicians shows how shallow and petty you are, even if you have superior playing ability, we all have our unique approaches, you would all kill to have come up with(and made money from) the memnorable and endlessly imitated riffs those three have come up with.

although Jack White is the new generation frontmen i would have recommended Brian May to be with edge and Jimmy Page seeing its a documentary about guitar and Brian made his from scratch what would be better than that!!!

Love all guitarists. Thank you Guitarworld for representing all the genre's out there.

BB King would be criticized by these douchebags on the board.

That's too bad.

Why is everybody hating on Jack White when The Edge is obviously the most overrated guitarist on the cover? Seriously, the man plays the same boring sounding stuff on almost every U2 song. Like or dislike Jack White, but He's a helluva lot better than The Edge has ever been or ever will be. Besides, in past Guitar World interviews Page has voiced his respect for White, and I think his opinion matters more than most of you narrow minded guitarists who have probably only heard a few White Stripes songs. Sometimes there's a beauty to simplicity, but many guitarists sadly fail to notice that. Like or dislike Jack White's tone, style, etc. But the man has written far more memorable riffs than most posters on Guitar World will ever write, and definitely more than The Edge ever has in his boring career.

i hate all three of them. none of them interest me. from what ive seen, the only thing ill like is mastodon.

deano70

Just watched it. SIMPLE SLIDE GUITAR. Not pushing the limits by no means. You want slide ? Watch Ben Harper! White is nothing special, sorry.

WOW! How could supposedly "guitar players/fans" be so ignorant and judgemental towards something they obviously know nothing about. Jack White is an amazing guitarist, one of the best out there right now and one of the only few thats pushing the limits and creating something new. For any of you that dont think jack white is worthy of being on the cover go check out his cover of death letter on youtube, that should change ur opinion....it might not turn u into a fan but if u cant respect it then put down ur guitar and find a new hobby cuz u shouldn't be playing

deano70

Page is the only legend on the cover, and he is a sloppy guitarist. The Edge has minimal skills, harmonics mainly, and Black had a couple simple catchy riffs. Guitar world needs to start displaying guitarist with skill more often(not EVH) and not ones that are popular to the masses. Why not Fripp or Heron? Because they are not well known? Help make them known. Enough said.

I thought Jack was too busy bangin' his sister... Oh wait that was just a big lame douche bag lie..

The documentary is really good. It's not done in the typical rags-to-riches-to-drugs-to-redemption etc etc etc fashion and it's not a historical interpretation based on the three of the players either. The director captured a combination of their past and how playing the guitar evolved in their minds and hands. I think with this concept it could turn into an all out series, with other greats as well, considering that docs don't cost a lot of money to make, comparitively speaking, and that there are of course many many players that could pass along their stories and feelings about this great instrument. Davis Guggenheim picked these three for starters, and they agreed. They represent different eras, but also their unique and different approaches, each making a significant mark with dynamic effect on music listeners and guitarists alike. The parts with them jamming together will instantly resonate with any rock musician, while the backgrounds and stories that go along with it will add to the poignancy of the project.

Jack White standing beside Jimmy Page on the cover?

newrisinsun

I love Zep, no comment on the Edge, and I think the White Stripes are very unique and original, so I am glad to see them working together.

dnnspay

Jimmy Page and The Edge should have been the only two on this cover. There are more guitar players that deserve, and should have been with them. Not Jack White. He can't even compare..

Seriously I can see Jimmy Page and the Edge but Jack White? IT was like the last time he was on the cover and there was a hige feature article on ozzy (aug.07). Who would you put on the cover? Ozzy or Jack white NO COMPARISON, then or now! I think you got it wrong again guitarworld.

hendrix_rules

jack white is on the cover with jimmy page and the edge because he's in the movie "it might get loud" with them! Read the fuckin' cover!

thank you

zep612

did Jack White give guitar world a large amount of money to put him on the cover any time Jimmy Page is on the cover. I don't think he belongs up there with those two.

avatar

jammasterjeff

Man, I totally agree. Jack White's a punk.

avatar

zep 612 your an ass.

Jimmy has a lot of respect for Jack, for one. There is a movie coming out that Jimmy agreed to do, which is kind of a rare thing in itself, since he is always so aware of and protective of his image and how he is portrayed. The documentary is going to be really interesting, based on him alone.
As for all the arguments about Jack not being in his leauge or whatever, it boils down to the fact that Jack is keeping the blues-rock tradition going, and Page is smart enough to spot that and have appreciation for it.(Jimmy was at Jacks show in LA the other night, by the way)
