"Supergroup" is a word that gets tossed around a lot, but it's hard to deny the musical prowess of the members of Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, a new band featuring Brent Hinds (Mastodon,) Ben Weinman (The Dillinger Escape Plan,) Eric Avery (ex-Jane's Addiction) and Jon Theodore (ex-The Mars Volta.)

Guns N' Roses capped out their recent U.S. tour with two shows in Las Vegas, including one on New Year's Eve. The band livestreamed both shows via their website, and you can check out footage of the entire first concert from December 30 below.
Director and friend of Pearl Jam Cameron Crowe made an appearance on Sirius/XMU’s Pearl Jam station, and while on the air, he played a lengthy clip of a previously unheard demo called "Chinese" that dates from sometime in the '90s. The clip is streaming in the YouTube window below, with the actual audio of the song beginning around the 1:50 mark.
Tickets for Van Halen's upcoming 2012 tour don't go on sale until the 10th, but the band aren't waiting to give a lucky handful of music industry folks a taste of what's to come. The band will be playing an intimate gig at New York City's Cafe Wha? this Thursday, January 5.
Although it is impossible to catch every single guitar-tinged album that comes out in a given year, 2002 was so saturated with material -- some worthy, some not so much -- it was hard to remain concise.
Much loss was felt among the music community in 2002. It was, sadly, a year marred by the deaths of some of rock and roll's most talented visionaries. In March, Ozzy Osbourne/Motley Crue drummer Randy Castillo died of cancer, just two weeks before Alice in Chains singer Layne Staley succumbed to his addictions in his self-imposed exile at his Seattle condo. Founding Ramones bassist Dee Dee Ramone also died of a heroin overdose in June, as did Ratt guitarist Robbin Crosby one day later.
