How to Fake a Blues Guitar Solo

Here’s one to get you purists riled up.

Why on earth would anyone want to fake a blues guitar solo? The blues is all about feeling. If you’ve got to fake it, you’ve got no business going anywhere near the blues…or maybe a guitar, for that matter.

But as Sean Daniel explains in the description for this exercise in blues fakery, “Sometimes you just gotta fake it ’til you make it, and we’re going to teach you how you can swap between four identical chord voicings over a standard 12-bar blues shuffle to make it seem like you’re actually creating your own melodic solo.”

Well if he’s gonna put it that way…who knows. Maybe there’s something here after all.

Take a look as Sean and fellow guitar teach Ian Stich cycle through a few dominant 7–voiced chords over a blues in E.
