The rockabilly/blues-roots rockers' Friday, June 10, appearance will be their first show in the United States since 2005, not to mention their only show of 2011.
Their first album, 1987's The Paladins, was produced by Kim Wilson of The Fabulous Thunderbirds; their second album, 1989's Years Since Yesterday, was produced by Los Lobos' Steve Berlin and Mark Linnet. By the end of that year, they had already toured with Stevie Ray Vaughan, Los Lobos, The Blasters and The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Their last studio album was 2003's El Matador.
If you're not familiar with The Paladins -- and the ultra-cool, ultra-mad skills of Guild-wielding guitarist Dave Gonzalez -- check out this video of "Kiddio" performed in Holland in 2003:
The eighth annual Iron-N-Ink Festival, which celebrates hot rods/kustoms, burlesque, art shows, '50s fashion and tattoos (of course!), runs this Friday, June 10, through Sunday, June 12, and takes up three floors of the Queen Mary. Nearly 300 of the best tattoo artists from around the world will be on hand to flesh out the show.
The other June 10 music highlights include 13 Cats, The Rev Tones and DJ Satoki. June 11 headliners include The Sonics, Detroit Cobras, The Woggles, The Vandals, Skatalites, Fishbone, Chum and Stone River Boys (also featuring Dave Gonzalez on guitar and vocals). The June 12 headliners include Buzzcocks, Anti-Flag and Turbo AC’s.
In early July, the Stone River Boys start a two-week jaunt through the Midwest, which will be punctuated by performances at two great annual events, July 2 at Fitzgeralds American Music Festival in Chicago and July 9 at the Zoo Bar Anniversary Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska.
