You rarely hear about the ladies in these RnRHoF gripe-fests so I will offer this:
Why was Madonna(?!) who is more of a dance pop entertainer/dance than a musician inducted in 2008 and yet Pat Benatar, who has been eligible since 2004 remains out - oh yeah....$$$

Abso-fricken-lutely on Pat Benetar. I'd add Joan Jett (and possibly The Runaways--though Joan was much more influential as a solo artist). and Suzi Quattro to the list of women who should be in the RnRHoF.

I'd love to see Megadeth inducted. With all the lipeups Megadeth has had though, I wonder how they'd do it. The Friedman / Menza lineup had to be included at the very least, and maybe the Samuelson / Poland lineup.

Thanks to Josh Hart and his insight into this article. Everytime the nominations are announced I just want to start bitch slapping the nominating commitee.

First of all I must state this whole process with the RnRHoF PISSES ME OFF !!!

Just like the government, it all depends on who you know/blow/get drugs for/high priced hookers/bend over for, etc..

It has for some time been political and I must say that one of the biggest roadblocks is a nostalgia loving powermad publisher named Jann Wenner. If he doesn't like you, YOU ARE NEVER GETTING IN !!!
He is a vindictive evil man. I actually know a former music critic for a major metropolitan newspaper who told me numerous horror stories about him after working at Rolling Stone. But of course HE is in there as an inductee but is he more deserving than ANY of the bands in that slide-show above ? Or the ones I will mention in my response? No freaking way IMO.

THE HEAD MAN should be Cameron Crowe. No doubt about it. One of the most insightful music critics ever to put a pen to paper. That is if he wants the job/was offered it.

But as far as who was nominated this year, here is who belongs in IMO from this year's nominations (Only 5 can be chosen)

Guns N' Roses
The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Heart
Freddie King
The Small Faces/Faces

As far as the slide show above, I agree with everyone BUT Joan Baez. And Todd Rundgren belongs, but I'd like to lump Utopia in his nomination somehow. Yes is one of the greatest bands ever ANY GENRE IMO. Chris Squire, Steve Howe, and Alan White together are as tight as any trio that was, is, and will ever be. The only trio that are as tight as them progressively rock-wise would be Rush IMO.

Here are some names not mentioned yet.

Tom Dowd - One of THE MOST INFLUENTIAL/IMPORTANT PEOPLE EVER in the early history of rock and roll. I guarantee you Ray Charles, Ahmet Ertegun, and Jerry Wexler are spinning in their graves until arguably the greatest recording engineer/producer is inducted in. I wish people like Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton, Greg Allman, or countless others who worked with Mr. Dowd would speak up on his behalf.

He is as important to the creative development of Atlantic Records than even Ertegun or Wexler in the formative years.
I can't stress enough to anyone who wants to learn about a great American ICON check out the bio on Tom Dowd called "Tom Dowd & The Language of Music". Or look him up on Wikipedia.

I like The Mott the Hoople and Chicago mentions.

How about...
Ten Years After?
Jethro Tull?
King Crimson?
Thin Lizzy?
Def Leppard?
The Dead Kennedys?
Spinal Tap?
Jane's Addiction?
Ministry?
U.F.O.?

And screw the RAP groups. Grandmaster Flash and RUN/DMC HAVE NO PLACE in the RnRHoF EXCEPT as visitors IMO.
I was at the induction ceremony in Cleveland 2009. One of the most bizarre things I have ever seen was when RUN/DMC was getting put in.
It looked like the million man march but with a bunch of juveniles and thugs on the stage instead. NO LIE !!! I was wondering if it was their kids (a cast of a 1000 ?!?!?) and thought I was watching a filming of the "Menace II Society" sequel.
Basically no class shown from THAT inductee or their posse. I guarantee they ate more food than probably the rest of that year's inductees and their guests combined.

Some may think I am racist from that paragraph above but I know what I saw and how they acted on stage. Unacceptable is too nice a word to use concerning the incident. But then the RnRHoF sticks it's brown nose into wherever it smells $$$. Ain't that right Commandant Wenner ? I like Rolling Stone for a different reason nowadays. To wipe my poop chute with the music section (Sorry you still write there David Fricke, GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN !!!)

Whew....

The R&R hall of fame is a non for profit with a highly paid staff and a over riding need to get people to tune in to their show once a year and maybe buy the DVD and maybe visit the place once in a lifetime.
This is why Britney Spears may someday get inducted. Why rappers of all sorts will be inducted. Why R&B artist who probably hate rock get inducted. Rush has a cult following. Very vocal and loyal but a cult following. Average listeners do not get Rush beyond the fact that the voice sounds like what a leprechaun would sound like if they got hired as a front man. That the hook is...complicated. That the songs are long. If you mention the greatest musical contributors of all time maybe Coltrane and Sun House would be inducted? Rush has influenced many performers who go on to do pop or metal or jazz but they simply aren't a mass appeal band.
So vote for Lady Gaga and you can bet the ratings for the show would go up by 20 points!

By the way considering Son House and Coltrane are not inducted Alex, Neil and Geddy can feel pretty good! Maybe thats the year they get inducted and how cool would that trip to Cleveland be!

I would like to see Mott the Hopple - featuring Ian Hunter and Mick Ralphs. These guys were a huge influnce on many groups even though you don't hear that much about them.
