Im bored being the a-hole. The truth is Stryper, Zappa, Scorpions : none of them probably belong in the top spot. I really expected VH to win. The VH forums have hundreds sometimes thousands of forum members online a day. They usually swamp these things. I think they are all busy discussing what is going through Eddies pickled brain ( still haven't released their new album ).

I will say Scorpions LAFS is an AMAZING album. Dont just check out the typical tracks. Check out the Guitar playing on " the same thrill " " im leaving you " and " coming home " Jabs is right up there with Eddie guitar solo wise. And Rudy is a monster rhythm player...and great songwriter. But...its only a poll.

Peace !

And thank you Tony Grassi !

avatar

57trouble

Oh, and one thing i think we can ALL agree on is : What were the total votes in the poll ?

avatar

swordstres

I hope one day you will listen to the words of Stryper and see why they feel the way they do about God. A true Christian will follow the teachings of Jesus. He taught love thy neightbor as thy self. Who is thy neighbor? Everyone... yes even you 57trouble..I'm glad you found peace with this poll..I belive the Stryper army has too..I pray you can meet some true Christians who will change your mind about them we are not all the same just like everyone else in the world there are diffrent people everywhere. Love and prayers to you following the commands of my Jesus...May you find peace and the true meaning to your life.

avatar

Hey man, its all good. I don't discount god at all really.I keep an open mind. I was just in a mood and didn't like the results. Its all good. Peace !

And really...are they going to close the poll lol

avatar

Phungerwhoop

Great to hear mate! And you know what? God has never (and never will) discount you either..

Peace right back at ya - and yeah, let's hope the poll closes sometime within the next decade!

avatar

swordstres

When it was time for the poll to End.... Stryper was the true winner! Still second place is not bad for a whole year with alot of great artists. Strange how a album that even didn't have guitar in it will probally win, I would say that in itself is not valid...for a guitar album poll.

So, when Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden, if you go for all these fairy tales, that "evil" woman convinced the man to eat the apple, but the apple came from the Tree of Knowledge. And the punishment that was then handed down, the woman gets to bleed and the guy's got to go to work, is the result of a man desiring, because his woman suggested that it would be a good idea, that he get all the knowledge that was supposedly the property and domain of God. So, that right away sets up Christianity as an anti-intellectual religion. You never want to be that smart. If you're a woman, it's going to be running down your leg, and if you're a guy, you're going to be in the salt mines for the rest of your life. So, just be a dumb fuck and you'll all go to heaven. That's the subtext of Christianity.
-- Frank Zappa

VOTE ZAPPA !

Christianity is not at all an anti-intellectual religion. God told Adam and Eve not to eat the fruit as a test. It could have been from the Tree of If-You-Eat-This-Your-Hair-Will-Turn-Pink, and the rule would have been the same. God wanted to see if Adam and Eve could obey and trust Him without question. We have pain and suffering in this life as punishment for Adam and Eve's sin (disobedience), not because they wanted knowledge. God may have eventually given them the fruit in His own time, had they obeyed. Get past what the fruit was and focus on what Adam and Eve DID.
God certainly wants us to be knowledgeable in all things; he commanded us to "subdue the earth." Part of that charge is LEARNING about the Earth so we can know how to control and take care of it.

Frank would know that full well now Mr 57, and so will you one day...

Oh, and if we wanna quote famous rockstars, here's a few more quotes that might be worth considering..

“I was very active in my church until I was 18, and when I left the church, I went about as far away as a person could go when I then studied the occult for three years. I went for 20 more years before I returned to my Christian faith, which is where I am now.” – Blackie Lawless, W.A.S.P.

“Christ came and taught us about love, about doing unto others. That was his preach: Accept each other for who we are. Live peacefully, and love one another." – Tom Araya, Slayer

“I was born a Roman Catholic and I think that I have gone back to my faith. You know, people ask me are you a born-again Christian and I said no I am a dead-again Christian I have always been dead. I believe in Jesus Christ and God and the whole thing but, you know, I don't shove it down anyone's throat.” – Pete Steele, Type O Negative (RIP)

“Without this church and this relationship with God, I don't know where I'd be right now. I just know that I want to be able to use my life for God." – Nicko McBrain, Iron Maiden

“Drinking beer is easy. Trashing your hotel room is easy. But being a Christian, that's a tough call. That's real rebellion!" – Alice Cooper

“I will say that my adult religious beliefs were strengthened once I got cleaned up off dope and booze back in 1990 by way of 12 step programs. That really brought me back to putting God at the center of my life again and as a result I experienced the best years of my career, too”– Dave Ellefson, Megadeth

“I was always so busy looking forward, trying to be number one at everything I do, trying so hard and not being satisfied where I am that I missed it. So since I got healed my life has changed considerably. It started with my conversion of my faith becoming a Christian.” – Dave Mustaine, Megadeth

“I was born and raised a Christian and I still adhere to those principles.” – Dee Snider, Twisted Sister

“My relationship with Christ? That is the only thing that keeps me afloat.” – Gary Cherone, Extreme and Van Halen

I could go on but those are just a handful of the "dumb f****s' that you and Mr Zappa are referring to...

avatar

Phungerwhoop

Hmm, here is the personnel list for the Zappa album:

Pierre-Laurent Aimard – Piano
Guy Arnaud – Clarinet (Bass)
Lawrence Beauregard – Flute

Daniel Ciampolini – Percussion
Antoine Curé – Trumpet
Ensemble InterContemporain – Orchestra
Péter Eötvös – Musical Director

Marie-Claire Jamet – Harp
The London Symphony Orchestra
John Matousek – Mastering
Paul Meyer – Clarinet
Jerôme Naulais – Trombone

Strangely, one instrument appears to be missing from the instruments that appear on this album - what say you everyotherinstrumentbutguitarworld.com?

No worries, everyone knows who really won. If they cant handle it, thats between them and God!

avatar

Man, imagine how long the '85 poll is gonna go for! Based upon where Stryper are at currently, the poll will need to go for at least 10 years for someone to pass 'em...

avatar

Sarge777

This is so funny.....we come when we found out about this poll and then we came to vote for our favorite "Guitar Album of 1984"....I noticed with the other polls, it lasted exactly 1 week....no longer....then it comes to 1984 and when whoever started this poll saw that Stryper is ahead and HAS WON THIS POLL, no one will close it.....just keep it going on and on.....to see who will beat out Stryper, then you guys will close it...is this going to happen with the next one and the next one?? Stryper deserves this....weither you like them or hate them, they totally rock out!! and they have A TON OF FANS ON THEIR SIDE!!!!! But you (whoever started this poll) is causing alot of grieve here but it don't matter! We know who RIGHTFULLY won this poll and Michael Sweet and Oz Fox kicked it with this album as well as ALL OF THEIR ALBUMS....We will stand beside them as long and as much as we can and will!!! I came back to vote and it went DOWN!! So who has hacked it?? Not any Stryper fans! We would never do anything like that....this is just kinda wrong but I guess that is how the ball rolls.....If you are in the position to make people win or lose, then just do it.....in the long run, no one has the right to judge because in the end, we ALL WILL BE JUDGED RIGHTFULLY by the One that Stryper sings about and alot of people on here is trashing.....

avatar

swordstres

"Vote your favorite and check in next week to see who won the coveted number one spot."

uhh dude we are waiting ...to see the end result...did you go on vacation or something...

avatar

Phungerwhoop

Nah, reckon Tony's a closet Manowar fan and he's just waiting for them to make their run...

avatar

This poll should of closed Wednesday night with Stryper being the clear winner. Obviously, prejudice against Christian metal!

avatar

StryperFan777

Mr Grassi, why is this poll not over?

avatar

stryperlaw

People said it was rigged because of Stryper being on top. Yet now we arent and no one is talkin about how fast Zappa walked up the list. Lets talk about rigged. Lets talk about how they left the poll open this long anyway. Looks like you all got your wish.

Want everyone to know that i am enjoying my Labor Day weekend with friends and family. Beers, floated the river fishing in my boat, bbq, the pool...and its still going. Im sure most of the MILLIONS of Scorpions fans are doing the same around the world.Because they have jobs, a life and money. I will admit that i got a little zealous at the beginning but...it was the Scorps fans that said cool it man. Give it to em'. Its all they got. I agreed. TUESDAY ! Yes TUSEDAY is when i quit voting. I only check in ( most of the time on my phone...keep the page open ) for the humor aspect.

I say give it to them but leave the comments page open so i can bat these idiots around a little more. These nutball christians show their true face every time. Like i said, i have no problem with moderates but these people are NUTS !

Even my hero Matthias Jabs is a Christian ( he says that hes not a church goer though ;). Thats cool with me but i think as smart and cool of a dude he is...he is missled. Or he knows something i dont. But im sure its easy to become a christian after you have banged a million chicks, partied hard and are filty rich.ie: Its easy to become humble after you have had it all.

This whole thing is ridiculous anyway. If VH 1984 would have been in the top spot i would have passed right on by saying " yeah, that's about right " and never voted. Its called using reason and a little humility. But after seeing Styper in the top spot ? No ! Hell, even one of your " warriors " at your forum thought it was silly voting yaba into the top spot.

The scorps have MILLIONS of fans around the world and have stayed in the REAL GAME ! That means releasing an album and doing a tour every 3 years since 1972...thats right 1972. They are top dogs...in league with metallica, maiden, VH , ACDC. Stryper is merely a blip on the screen. And the only reason they are even a blip is because they did the Jesus crap. Do any of you remember ROX Regime ? Yep, that's who Stryper was on the strip before they thought up their lame gimmick. Funny story, Metallica opened for ROX on the strip in LA back in the day.On one particular gig, Michael let James use his " fancy " ( James words ) wireless mic. With the explicit instructions to turn it off when he was done. Well James didn't. Two set changes later Stryper goes out...no vocals. Gotta laugh every time i hear that one.

So thank you GW. Sorry for the harsh words but since you left this poll open...and are driving these guys nuts...i will be faithful to your mag from now on. Ordering my subscription TODAY !

It saddens me greatly to see your comments, 57. I'm sorry you have apparently met/seen so many poor examples of "Christians." I don't know if you'll care, but I will be praying for you. I hope you can meet some REAL Christians who really walk the walk and don't just talk the talk.
I offer my sincerest apologies in the stead of those who have left such a bad taste in your mouth.

And yet, you posted this at 6 AM this morning. No, you arent obsessed, dude. :)

At the end of one week, Stryper clearly beat em all! Case Closed, The Scorpians are amazing, nobody with half a brain can truly dispute that, they are simply not as cohesive or tight a band as the boys in Yellow and black. Stryper is better. Michaels' voice is clearly better than all the rest! They have the best fans on the planet, and at the end of day '7' oddly enough, there is your champion! Best guitar album of 1984 (although any one of the guys in the band would trade the honor for a single soul to know their God), Yellow & Black Attack! Congratulations, now we can watch the best Stryper album of all time , "Soldiers" Smoke any and all comers! They will win, they are the best guitar band of both years.

avatar

57trouble

Not as cohesive or tight ? This shows how delusional you actually are. Also, you are going to quit voting ? So much for " gods soldiers ". First you display pride, envy and greed..now you are giving up ? God thinks you are a pussy.

avatar

rex caroll fan

It's my opinion, after seeing the Scorps, probably 5 or 6 times, and admittedly, I've seen Stryper at least twice as much, that 'live', Stryper is the best band I've seen of the two? I speak only for myself, and your' opinion actually does mean something to me, I in no way meant to offend or belittle. You are exactly right 57trouble, God does not look at me in any kind of positive light, if I'm displaying envy or greed. Even if it is 1 persons' perception of The God I represent. Pride, in my favorite band, on a meaningless poll, I don't think HE cares one way or the other. Yet, I did not mean to come across as anything other than a fan speaking his mind on who was ahead after 7 days. You are right also, Van Halen wins things like this constantly. God knows I'm no p%&$**^y. If I kneel before HIM, I can and will stand b4 anyone. That said, I truly hope my comments are taken in the context they were meant to be in, just for fun, not scores of people 'ganging up' on a true Scorpians fan? If you do not know who Rex Carroll is, check him out, as a Scorpians fan, you won't be able to get enough!

avatar

nsheavyduty

Apparently, the creator of this poll must have liked Stryper's guitar preformance enough to include this album in the poll, personally, I listened to every artist on this poll as a teenager, but now as an adult, the only one I still listen to is Stryper.Their music is heavy and the message is pure and understandable. I saw them on their 25th anniversary tour, and they sound better than ever. Just saw Michael Sweet on That Metal Show, and it looks like Stryper is doing well today, and is in the news, and has a strong fan base, I know of three Stryper related webgroups that are strong and active, the StryperArmy, StryperTube, and StryperMusic. So it actually comes down to a battle of the fans. Let the fans say so.

avatar

Aguppywear777

Well I guess once the album Boulez Conducts Zappa: The Perfect Stranger – Frank Zappa catches and passes Stryper's Yellow and black Attack Tony Grassi will have his winner - Is that even a guitar album? sounds like a dedication album to me.

avatar

Sarge777

Okay, we, at the Stryper Army, came and we are well over 1000 strong......we also came and voted for the ULTIMATE band, STRYPER....now this poll suppose to have ended on Wed. So my question is this, why is it still going?? Is it because you don't want Stryper to win?? They deserve this title because Michael and Oz can take on any song and kick butt doing it....they are well-repected musicians and they know their stuff.....listen to The Covering and tell me different....They took on Heaven and Hell, and Breaking the Law and Rob from Judas Priest HIMSELF said that they nailed it......so what's up with this? I am not saying that the others deserves it and there are several bands here I like BUT I am the "Sarge" of the Stryper Army and I LOVE STRYPER and I will go down fighting for them......there was no hacking of this poll, just some TRUE HARDCORE FANS THAT WILL STAND BESIDE THEIR BAND AND WILL GO DOWN FIGHTING FOR THEM......and yes, they do have alot of fans that is "closet" fans and they came out and stood their ground for Stryper as well.....so end this one poll already....we know who won and let's move on to the next one.....and I wonder who is ahead in that one as well? Stryper deserves the respect because they can play with the best of them and even in some cases, outdo the rest of them.....close this poll and let's move onto the next one......

avatar

57trouble

Sarge777:"Yeah man. Close this poll because we love Stryper ! We really think they are the best gosh dang it ! We just think its all a bunch of poopie that it is still going. We had planned a Stryper Victory party at Applebees for Wednesday and i had to cancel ! Come on guys jeesh !
Our glorious leader Michael Sweet even got out early from his job at Payless Shoes so he could join us. Its just not fair !!!! "

Aw, don't be so hard on yourself, Coby. Not all of us can be music and comedy geniuses.

I'm struggling to figure out what relevance Kirk Cameron has in this forum discussion, therefore I can't quite see what purpose "remembering" him would serve.

avatar

57trouble

Nice , Real nice. Not only do you waste your life on a stupid poll ( that i quit voting in days ago ) but you go and TRY to find my name. It only proves how prideful hypocritic and stupid you are. What do you think GOD would think of all this ? Hmmm ? Mister fucktard. Pride, envy, greed...its all here on display. From you. A little lesson here son, the devil tempted you and you took the bait. Those rules don't apply to me because i don't believe in that crap...but you failed in EVERY SINGLE ONE. Proof of your hypocrisy. It only solidifies my belief that all of that is HORSE SHIT !

Fail.

avatar

Firestorm777

Oh, I beg to differ. It's not time wasted. It took all of five seconds to locate you on the Scorpions forum. Surprisingly, you actually seem like a pretty cool guy. You were just very zealous in your support of the Scorpions, and upset that a band you perceive as nobodies was beating them. You're not a bad person, but you have trouble letting things go.

"What do you think GOD would think of all this?" Well, fortunately, God doesn't expect perfection from us. Otherwise, no one would have any hope at all. But basing your opinion of Christians on the behavior of one person (who, for the record, never even claimed to BE a Christian), is like me forming my opinion of all atheists from the behavior of Joseph Stalin. We're not all the same, except in one thing: we're all human, and we all make mistakes.

I was wrong to feel so provoked by you, to the point that I took your insults toward Stryper as insults toward myself. When people feel wounded by others, it's perfectly natural to retaliate in kind. It takes a stronger person to exercise restraint. So, I suppose I can only say that I'm sorry I took the lower road. I highly doubt you'll accept my apology as genuine, but what matters is that *I* know it is.

Have a good Labor Day Weekend.

avatar

57trouble

Wawawa! hahaha ! Scorps are in 3rd and i don't give a rip...so hilarious you guys are still voting ! Dumbass christians...

Funny that its still going too...GW is not going to take that kind of bad publicity.

avatar

Aguppywear777

Worse publicity GW will take is allowing a seven day poll to go on for 12 days. Makes a mockery of this poll because this Tony Grassi fellow does not have anymore to do with Guitar World magazine than you do...

avatar

57trouble

Im voting for Stryper. Just so i can make a mockery of them when they win! Ohhh, the jokes i have !

avatar

Firestorm777

Not really seeing your logic there, bud. But by all means, carry on voting for Stryper. I don't really give a care whether you mock them afterward or not, and I don't think anyone else does either.

avatar

Firestorm777

What's hilarious is that you're even back on this site after claiming you had so many other "better" guitar sites to frequent. Don't demean yourself, my dear 57trouble. Leave the second-rate GW to moulder in its grave of you-lessness.

avatar

57trouble

Sorry Firestorm777. I should have know better. This is a Stryper fan only Zone. You can tell from the votes hahaha

I will admit i was stupid for taking it that seriously...evedently you haven't figured that out yet. You people must not work hahaa

I love how this has played out. I always like pestering Christians. Its like shooting fish in a barrel.

avatar

Aguppywear777

too bad you're shooting blanks...

avatar

Firestorm777

Look, I'm sorry that your beloved Scorpions have fallen so far behind in the polls. I'll admit, I do actually like a few of their songs. "Rock You Like A Hurricane" is pretty boss.

But in the end, it's just a stupid poll. Like you're so fond of saying, it doesn't mean anything. So you can rest easy. No one is denying that the Scorps rock. They're just not my favorite, and they're not (apparently) the majority of the voters' favorite. That position is rapidly going to Frank Zappa. :D

avatar

57trouble

Boss ? I think that word went out in 1987. Im glad Zappa is winning.

avatar

Firestorm777

"Boss" went out in 1987? Well, I guess you would know. I wasn't alive back then. :D

Go ahead and let Stryper win...They deserve it. The fans know they have already won but no one will confirm it...
