Alright just for a moment lets think about what Stryper had to do to get big. They had to go through the Sunset Strip. THE DIRTY GRUNGY SUNSET STRIP, AS A CHRISTIAN BAND! They had to be a million times better then non christian bands to get signed because being saved was "uncool". Just take out the lyrics to all these albums and study the guitar. "Soldiers Under Command", the song and the album, is some of the greatest guitar work of all time. Listen to the opening riff. Tell me thats not the greatest riff of 85. Ive heard most if not all these albums and the one that changed my life as a guitarist was "Soldiers". Stryper has been biased against their whole careers because of their beliefs. AND THEIR STILL MAKING MUSIC TODAY. That in itself deserves a medal. Stryper is one of the greatest bands of all time. Bar none. But while im being honest. Stryper ballads suck. Im saying that as a fan with love. "Honestly" and "Lady" make me wana kill myself. But put on "Caught in the Middle" and im a happy camper.

Voted for Dokken's Under Lock and Key, great songs & great solos by George Lynch. Also gotta give props to Thunder In The East by Loudness, Akira Takasaki shreds it up on that album!

On this list the one that influenced me the most was the Stryper album. Still to this day the guitar on Soldiers gives me goose bumps. Walls of Jericho and Metal Heart are close 2nd though (the Weikath/Hansen & Hoffman/Fischer duos are very underrated imho). Brothers In Arms would be my 3rd. My favorite is not on the list though, Vince Gill’s 1985 “The Things That Matter”. Hearing Vince Gill, Ray Flacke, Albert Lee, & Eddie Shaver changed my focus to country. Molly Hatchet’s 1985 ”Double Trouble Live” hit me hard also. On Bonded by Blood the 2nd solo from the song Metal Command I worked on allot. Chris Poland played some amazing stuff on Killings My Business. Marching out is great also. I wore out two "Done with Mirrors" tapes. Lots of cool stuff from 85.

Another great guitar album from 85 was Y&T's Open Fire Live.

If your pro choice you want to kill babies.
If you are for gay marriage you hate straight people.
If you are for welfare your a communist.
If your for Stryper you hate non christian music.

Doesn't this logic sound completely stupid?

Dont worry 57 trouble, as you can see on the 1984 poll Stryper wont win, Someone who really had no chance, someone with no guitars on the record will win. They will keep the poll going for weeks so Stryper dont win. As for you, Im sorry you feel the way you do, I hope someday you see the light and come to God. Really dont want to see anyone burn forever. God bless you!

In my pesonal collection, I only have two cassettes from my Teenage era, Styx "Kilroy Was Here", and Stryper "Soldiers Under Command", I have always enjoyed Stryper's music, in a world full of negativity. a little positive music never hurt anyone. My vote goes to Stryper.

Well, as long as "Flash" stays low... Beck has released few bad albums, maybe only this one, but what a turd.

Also, OK, it's about who is motivated to vote. Allright, push Stryper, OK, I couldn't care less about that band but they obvioulsy have been blessed with loyal fans so they must be doing something right, OK, we get it, but the percentages right now are just ridiculous.

Just contacted poll daddy. Stryper is cheating. Dont vote for anything. These polls are invalid.

Just contacted 'reason'... seems to me it's evident that your' crusade to demonize 'Stryper', gets their fans fired up! I had my wife listen to 'Love at first Sting', & then The best guitar albums of 84 , & 85, Which both belong to Stryper. She loves the Scorps, always has, but she voted for Stryper.... she likes them better! Now she wants to hear The Covering? She already told me 'Blackout' is a close call, but she gives it to The Scorpians. Why is it so hard for you to give credit where it's due? You obviously 'play', listen to The Covering, you will not believe 1 band could play so many styles so well? They work hard, and they kick ass! It is Audibly clear Stryper Rocks! The stryper fans have spoken, voted, and they are numero uno! The polls are real, and I'd like to see Soldiers under Command get 80 % of the vote! Maybe then they can announce what Stryper fans already know!

Just contacted Poll Daddy who confirmed 57trouble is one of the few fans not voting for Stryper.

Man we are on a page on Facebook called the Stryper Army. We are all voting and yes there are a lot of us. We support our band through thick and thin. Stryper has a great fan base and this shows it. Rex Carrol Fan.....if everyone here ever heard Rex Carroll play they would have to admit a Christian guitarist blows there guys away! Rex can do amazing things on a guitar.

I have a Cd called 'King James' - A Band made up of Rex Carroll, Rob Sweet, Tim Gaines and a singer named Jimi Bennett.... Rex was awesome with Whitecross, but that CD 'showcases' him like I've simply never heard b4! I am A Huge Stryper fan, and have seen him play with Oz a time or two? I honestly do noy believe there is a better guitarist alive today than Rex! Brian Wooten is another, just absolutely amazing! There are so many guys who play on labels that 'Christian music fans' hear, that blow even the guys considered 'Legends' away! Stu Hies of Rez back in the day, and Jeff sheetz,..... there are a ton! Stryper should win 1985 with no doubt. I love Oz, but Rex simply seems like that thing was a part of his body since birth! What a gift!

I've been a Stryper fan since 86 when I found out about them thanks to MTV. At that time I went and got every album I could get my hands on. No other band has ever had that effect on me. I'm not a churchgoer but I do have beliefs and that really has nothing to do with how much Soldiers Under Command absolutely shreds. These guys were the reason I picked up a guitar back in the day so for me, all of their albums are the Best Guitar Album.

STRYPER ROCKS!!!GO STRYPER!!!!

All of the above albums are great. As a guitarist, I love hearing songs stripped down to the basics and played acoustic and unplugged. But, I'm really hard pressed to find a good acoustic rendering from any of the mentioned albums... except one. I'm a big Rush fan, but even Alex and Geddy, it seems, haven't attempted much in the way of an acoustic version of anything on "Power Windows". Check out what this duo in Stryper have done here! Please, copy and paste.

.i think it would be more accurate for these polls to have a captcha system. because as you may notice stryper is winning again just like in the 1984 list.im not saying their fans are not voting, but just to make sure that a robot program isnt gaming the system and that every band in the poll has a fair chance.

avatar

Firestorm777

Of course, no one would utter even a peep of protest if it were any other band in the lead...

It would be closer if narrowed down to say '10' albums, and people would still complain, though not as much, if Stryper were in 2nd or 3rd place & trying to catch Maiden or Yngwei? Stryper is my all-time favorite band. I think 'Soldiers' IS their best guitar album, but I do think this is simply one magazines poll, and has more to do with 'fan loyalty' than who actually has the 'best' guitar album? I hope they win both polls, both albums are excellent guitar albums. Either other bands fans are not voting, or Stryper fans are much more numerous than I would ever have believed?
