ATO Records is excited to announce the April 29 release of acoustic rock maestros Rodrigo y Gabriela's new studio album. Titled 9 Dead Alive, it is the band's first record of new material in five years. It was recorded and produced by Rod and Gab at their studio in Ixtapa, Mexico. Mixing was handled by Andrew Scheps (Black Sabbath, Adele, Metallica, Lana Del Rey) in Los Angeles.
Not only was their guitar playing impressive, but they also used the guitars as percussion instruments by tapping its body. The set had songs from all of their studio albums, and some new, unreleased material as well. These new songs sounded perhaps even more intense than anything they’ve ever put out, and treated this very well behaved and appreciative crowd with a great teaser for the next album due out in 2014.
What do you do when metal just doesn’t work out? Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela answered that question by moving to Europe and playing intricately fingered acoustic versions of their metal favorites. Gabriela’s unique quasi-flamenco hand tapping and speed-blurred strumming technique fill in like a one-woman rhythm section. With Rodrigo’s lead stylings dancing on top, their performance is spellbinding.
