The Blacksmith and the Artist
Reflect it in their art

Otherwise, actors & artists / musicians should do their job and otherwise remain silent!

ODD....For my favorite band EVER to not approve of a voice of Freedom,
Capitalism and Free speech.
I guess Ayn Rand means nothing to them now.
Maybe they have become good super rich socialists?
If Limbaugh paid then tuff shit!

REMEMBER SOCIALISM IS FOR THE PEOPLE NOT THE SOCIALIST!!

P.S. That Flucke chick IS a slut

Actually, as long as Rush (the band) have placed their songs in the public license, & as long Rush (the political radio commentator) has paid for his blanket license, (he has & they have,) the Rush the Canadian band is free to go pee up a rope.

That's the bitter side of trying to make a buck(even a Canadian one). As long they've placed their songs in the publishing license, they don't have a say. Ain't it a bitch to have to suck it up for the few pennies you got in exchange. Eh, Hosers?

I'd like to file a Cease and Desist against RUSH too. Quit putting out the same vanilla record every year for the past 30.

Speaking as an average Canadian. The vast majority of us, including Geddy, Alex and Neil I suppose, don't want any part of America's ridiculous political drama. Aside for some sort of perverse amusement.

Please don't assume this is part of some pinko canuck pro-Obama agenda.

Personally, I can't decide whom I hate more Limbaugh or Maher.

"Pinko cancuk pro-Obama agenda" Classic!!

I just hope this doesn't make it harder for RUSH to get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

blayneb, you are totally wrong. it wasnt a private forum that sandra fluke gave her "opinion" in, it was a pulic congressional hearing. Therefore she is as much in the public eye as sarah palin. While I don't think rush should have used such language, dumb move indeed, I do think that bill maher is worse. The only difference is he gets a pass while rush does not. None so blind as those that refuse to see.

avatar

blayneb

Obviously we'll never agree Bill. Can't believe you don't see the obvious difference between Palin and Fluke, public forum or not. Poor conservatives they have it SO ROUGH!! POOR Sarah!! Let's all cry for her!! The mean old lame-stream media didn't come to her defense!! BOO-HOO!! Why is Maher worse? Because he is a liberal - or WORSE an ATHEIST?!

avatar

blayneb

Sorry Bill I don't see it. There is just no comparison to the endless publicity seeking that Palin does and the one time testifying that Flute did. This is a CAREER for Palin, I doubt testifying in Congress is a career for Flute. Palin gives as good as she gets and can handle it. I think Maher gets a pass because people SEE what Palin is doing. But I might agree he did go over the top, let's say that. He really doesn't need to do that to make his point, she gives him more than enuff opportunities.

Wow!!! A lot of aggression on this subject. Rush is as much of a problem as he is a solution for Republicans. While I'm not what you would call a "Proud Republican" that has more to do with my somewhat moderate view point on religion and social concerns. We live in a 2 party system, whether we like it or not. And I am against more government and for keeping more of the money I earn. That's as simple as it gets.

Please don't start with the "If you were more informed" garbage. I am far more informed than the average voter. And YES I absolutely do vote. What my "information" tells me is that there are a great deal of people who vote for Democrats hoping to get more than they work for. Unfortunately, they only get just enough to keep them satisfied and not enough to make them fruitful. To live fruitful lives, they would need to get up, accept responsibility for themselves, and make their own success story. Also, I know that ALL POLITICIANS are more concerned about how to get more into their own pockets than they are helping out their constituents. I vote Republican on a "lesser of two evils" forum. Get Uncle Sam the hell out of my life as much as possible. Work hard and good things will happen. I am living proof of that formula. So are several of my friends.

I grew up in a poor household with the unfortunate attitude of "where's my check that the government promised". I saw that all around us with our network of friends (also waiting for the check they were owed). I knew at an early age that I was not going to live like that when I grew up. And I haven't. I worked my rear end off and moved up the ladder through 3 different companies. I did it on my own and I dont want to have to share it with those "waiting for their check". Obviously, there should be programs to help certain people in certain situations. Unfortunately, if you open your eyes and really look, you will see that no matter how much money the government takes from "Big Business" (yeah right), the poor stay poor. You may not get rich, but you can make a nice life for yourself if you don't accept the role of "victim". I am no victim and I'm damned proud of it.

There are some valid points about the double standard regarding Limbaugh and Maher, but I'm pretty sure conservatives were upset about Maher's commments when it happened.
The difference, as I see it, is that Palin is very much a public figure, who embraces every chance she gets to be in the spotlight. (Talk about a brain-dead egotist). Flute was expressing her opinion as a private citizen, and Limbaugh, an anal cyst if there was one, attacked her. He has a right to his d*psh*t opinions, and his advertisers have a right to leave and let him fester like the lanced boil he is.

frezfram

Way to go guys! Rush stands up against Limbaugh! Hell, I would not want my music associated in any way with Limbaugh either. Rush has something that Limbaugh does not, real integrity.

avatar

Scott Callen47

really?
how much of Fly By Night and 2112 are based on the writings of Ayn Rand?

avatar

blayneb

Oh poor Sarah!! Again no parallel with this, the Palin conversation does not even belong here. Conservatives just need something to try and justify Limbaugh's crass remarks

gibsonslinger

Whatever you say bro. Wrong is wrong, and name calling is childish in any capacity. Your justification of Maher's tasteless remarks is equally childish. And for the record, I personally am sick to death of EVERYONE in Washington.

As far as the actual topic, Rush is free to allow whoever they wish to use (or not use) their music. Frankly I wouldn't want ANYONE in the political arena using my stuff.

avatar

blayneb

Well we agree on the Rush topic indeed. And whether were sick of the folks in Washington or not they are impacting our lives to a huge extent whether we like it or not so we can't ignore them.

gibsonslinger

FYI, I've seen and heard very very little from the press/media about the amazingly out of line comments Bill Maher made about Sarah Palin. Free speech indeed.......just as long as it falls in line with the liberal agenda.

avatar

blayneb

I do not agree, the Palin - Flute analogy is a bad one, there is no parallel. Palin is a public figure who sticks her neck out everywhere and goes on rants against everyone and asks for it and expects what she gets. Flute is a law student who one time tried to stand up for what she believes in. There is no parallel, don't try to equate Maher w/ Limbaugh. Maher is way funnier anyway! Rush and Gabriel are correct.

avatar

Jeff G

While I agree that there is a double standard and that Maher calling Palin a bad name should be just as punishable as Rush calling someone a slut, this is hardly the point. No where in the letter written by Rush's lawyers does it indicate that they have chosen a side in this matter. They simply don't want their music being used with a politician, and since it is their song, they should have a right to have it used the they want. Good for them.

Maher is as bad Limbaugh. Free speech is fine but when your defaming someone who didn't do anything to deserve those kind of words you should be called on it.Disagreeing is ok slandering and malicious words aren't.BTW Rush (the band ) is still very relevant and sells a lot of albums.Limbaugh isn't really relevant and his kind of emotional scare tactics and made up nonsense work on less and less people these days because they are better informed................if they choose to be. Limbaugh should just go away.

salmonline

Still need that nap, huh Benji?

It amazes me some of the attitudes on people.
Limbaugh isn't entitled to use Rush's music w/out Rush's permission, plain and simple. What's so hard to understand here?

And what does Palin have to do with anything? She's a batshit-crazy right-wing dope (just like you, apparently, Benji)AND a public figure who attacks people in a very public manner then sits back and wonders why she gets called names in the media she insults on a daily basis.

Benj, you need to save your 'righteous indignation' for the appropriate venue. This isn't it.

Troll elsewhere, please.

Benji8461

I don't always talk to salmonline...but when i do.....I ask for fries....

avatar

spiderbob

That's funny!+1

Benji8461

people are so hypocritical....and now Rush are the latest assholes to fall into that category. The media goes absolutely batshit over Limbaughs words....

(btw, i don't like Limbaugh personally because he's a hypocrite. he was a closet drug addict and yet he belittled those that had drug addictions and THAT is being a hypocrite...so save me the "right wing fruitcake bullshit, ok?)

.....an yet someone like Bill Maher can call Sarah Palin a CUNT and a WHORE and many other revolting names, and ...where's the outrage?

The world is filled with a bunch of 2 faced hypocrites... Thanks Rush, but guess when you're a has-been band from the 70's (I saw them on their 77-78 Rush / UFO tour), you gotta do SOMETHING to get some press.

danielbetts

first, let me say that rush limbaugh is a bonehead. But when Ed Schultz called Laura Ingraham a 'Right-wing Slut,' I didn't see a lot of "left wing outrage." We ARE a nation of hypocrites. Can we all, at least, agree on that?

I stopped voting for all/any of them. Not worth my time. Politics suck!

metalriffs

Limbaugh is free to say whatever he wants (as long as it isn't slanderous) and Rush is free to choose who they allow to use their music. Good for them; it's the right thing to do.
