"So for less than 2G’s, you can really cover a lot of bases. It’s not the wand, it’s the magician. Check out my video below to hear what a few simple tools can do."

I'd love to check out your video, but I don't see any link, just 4 pictures to scroll through.

Ron, I just stumbled on your blog in the past 24 hours, and I learn something new from each and every one of your postings that I read!

Lately, I've been in a learning feeding frenzy. I can't seem to shut off my mind to even go to bed. I fall asleep in my chair; wake up, see the pick I dropped on the floor when I fell asleep, pick it up, and start practicing, again.

I'm immersed in 4 books right now (Mark Levine's Jazz Theory book, Randy Vincent's 3-note Voicings and more, and Andrew Green's - Jazz Guitar Comping and Jazz Guitar Structures) and awaiting 2 more books from Amazon.

Your blogs are amazing!! The technical and non-technical bits and pieces only spark my enthusiasm to learn more at an even faster rate. From your articles, I go Google and the next thing you know I'm immersed on all kinds of web sites. For example, I visited UA's site, got excited by all the really cool gear they make and the nest thing I know I'm registering on their forums, and digging the coolest videos, like the one on the 610 board that's owned by Neil Young.

Hope you don't tire of all the questions I'll be leaving for you, but you have me daydreaming and analyzing the possibilities. As if I wasn't fired up already, and then you had to come along and be another source of inspiration. Way cool what you're sharing with us, all!!

Thank you, Ron!!!!

Rat bast@rd has me creating a @#$#$%^& account on guitarworld. Okay, if that is what it takes to say that even though I don;t own a damn @#$%^& thing of music gear, I loved the article, then I will do it as Ronnie is the @#$%^& master.

It should be a law that all over the age of 6 have a Guitar World log in and Subscription...whether you play or not!

TaraMarie

One of the most talented musicians of our time. Love the article!

rongtr

Thanks T!

The ears have it! Keep it simple with the gear.....I'm right there with you on that, Ron. There's no substitute for talent and experience.....you obviously recognized and accepted the great opportunities that presented themselves to you when you where a young aspiring player, like studying under some of the great musicians that you mentioned in your column (good advice for any guitarists out there with drive and determination).

Pax vobiscum,

Ed

Too kind, sir. Too kind. But thank you.

Ron Z has that magic for sure. I have been a long time friend and client. I have learned so much just by watching him put years of experience to use. He makes it look easy!

This man knows what he's talking about. I've had the pleasure of working with him a few times, and I'll tell you that out of all my studio experiences, Ron was the most amazing to work with; his ear, experience and creativity meant walking out with anything better than I expected.
Best bass tone I've ever heard recorded. Ron is a magic man!

avatar

rongtr

Thanks Jon....but it's easy to get a great bass sound when you have a great bassist with excellent gear!

avatar

Vando

I read through all the comments and see one word in common: Magic.

avatar

rongtr

With all my friends in Salem mass I'm surprised no one spelled it MAGICK!

avatar

suemenhart

A magic man who can also read minds - when the client (like me) can't put it into words. Results: PURE MAGIC!! Rock on Ron!

avatar

rongtr

It's a gift!!! Thanks Sue! Rock on with the finest voice I ever had the pleasure to record!

avatar

MarkBacino

Congrats, RZ! Great piece!

Indeed, it’s not the wand, it’s the magician and Mr. Zabrocki is one hell of a magician yet that said, Ron speaks the truth; with today's relatively inexpensive/solid gear anyone interested can get involved, start playing and begin weaving a little magic of their own.

The prince of POP, Mark bacino....thanks for the kindness...but as you know, when we work together and I play the gtr, it really is like you playing it....I am merely a puppet....but you move those strings so well!
I will say it again publicly....I will never write a pop song as good as you!

Ron, You the Man! I spent countless hours in Ron's studio wacthing him work his magic. Everyone should check out his CD. Left of November!!!!

minimoniotaku

Right on the nail, Ron. I don't think I've spent more than $400 (not counting the obligatory case and stand) for any of my guitars since I started playing again a couple of years ago. Now I'm in the process of assembling another guitar simply from $200 worth of parts from eBay and guitarfetish.com... I'm looking forward to putting her together, intonating her, stringing her up, and plugging her in!

avatar

rongtr

Love it! Now if we could only make the mics, pres and computer software....
Thanks for the comment!

When I first met Ron I was just another dumb teenager who thought Loud = good. I also thought that without the loudest most expensive amps and preamps and mics and boards and studio rooms and mixers and compressors and reverbs and on and on, you could never make anything that could compare to the modern rock on the radio now adays.

In one session I was able to see how Ron does EVERYTTHING with stuff I already had. In my case, a crappy guitar, a computer, and an mbox. and it sounded like i was listening to a 90k recording project. Nope, just Ron tweaking away on some basic equipment, doing it the right way.

I now record and process everything on my computer in my tiny little office, and just by using a few tricks that Ron teaches, my shitty guitar was re birthed into a huge wall of distortion that seems to be tamed in just the right places to not take over the mix like It always would used to. And people still pay for a huge studio with 9 engineers and a producer and tons of stress, when you could be hanging out on a guy like ron's couch relaxing making sweet tunes? simple but true.

rongtr

You are a kind and handsome man! Actually, it's crazy how fast you picked up on everything! Thanks for the kind words!
