Sound Off: When Rock and Roll Goes Commercial

It sucks to see your favorite music used for commercial purposes, and while I suppose it is another layer of "selling out," any commercially successful act is selling out to a certain extent. Think of the enterprise involved of the Pearl Jam brand, the AC/DC brand, the U2 brand. It's all business. Now, it's all OK if the music speaks to us and adds meaning to our lives. But yes, again, it sucks if that meaningful music is used to sell shit from Walmart.



Funny, we just talked about this the other night, in light of the deluge of Walmart ads every five seconds. Luckily, we do a podcast about such nonsense. Check out the new episode on this Friday when we discuss classic rock going commercial.
