STP Reunites for Summer Tour: Dates Announced

One of this summer’s most highly anticipated music announcements has arrived. Stone Temple Pilots have officially revealed that the band will be reuniting and will launch a massive 2008 concert tour encompassing over 65 dates and hitting all corners of North America. Marking the first national tour for Stone Temple Pilots in almost eight years, the 65 date stretch will bring the iconic band’s charismatic musicianship and exhilarating live shows to amphitheatres across North America. The tour is scheduled to kick off May 17th with the band headlining the Rock on the Range Festival in Columbus, OH, and will continue through November 2008.

On April 7th Stone Temple Pilots will launch a new web site and an official fan club program that will give members exclusive access to presale tickets for the band's upcoming tour. VIP ticket packages that include premium seating will be available for fans who are seeking a unique concert experience.

Founded in 1992, Stone Temple Pilots-- Scott Weiland, vocals; Dean DeLeo, guitars; Robert DeLeo, bass; and Eric Kretz, drums—have been a dominant force in rock music since their inception. The group’s impressively extensive and top-selling music has cemented their standing as one of the most successful rock groups of all time having sold more than 35 million albums worldwide. The band’s immense and distinguished catalog includes five critically acclaimed studio albums have spanned countless hits including 1994’s Purple, which went to #1 on Billboard Magazine’s Top 200 Album Chart, six #1 singles and fifteen Top 10 singles on the Billboard charts. The band won a Grammy Award in 1994 for “Best Hard Rock Performance” for its song “Plush.”

On Tuesday, April 1, Velvet Revolver issued this press release regarding Scott Weiland’s departure from the group:

"This band is all about its fans and its music and Scott Weiland isn't 100% committed to either," said Slash. "Among other things, his increasingly erratic on-stage behavior and personal problems have forced us to move on."

After which, Weiland issued his own press release:
"I have to say it is a blatant and tired excuse to cover up the truth. The truth of the matter is that the band had not gotten along on multiple levels for some time. On a musical level, there were moments of joy, inspiration, times, but let's not forget the multiple trips to rehab every member of the band had taken (with the exception of one member, no need to mention his name)."
