Jimmy Herring, Wayne Krantz, Michael Landau, Keith Carlock and Etienne Mbappe have formed a new band, The Ringers, and they've announced a string of US dates in February. The supergroup, which brings together five genres of music — rock, funk, jazz, blues and African — will start things off February 19 in Athens, Georgia, and wind up in Washington, DC, on February 23.
Jimmy Herring is a stunning jazz/rock virtuoso. Though his resume includes touring with classic rock legends The Allman Brothers Band, fusion icons Lenny White and Billy Cobham, and jam staples The Dead and Widespread Panic, he has remained relatively unknown within the guitar community.
Jazz label Abstract Logix has just released a two-DVD set from 2010’s New World Music Festival featuring some of the greatest jazz rock fusion guitarists, including John McLaughlin, Jimmy Herring, Wayne Krantz and Alex Machacek.
