The Bluegrass Situation has announced a special festival edition of their web video series Sitch Sessions on TheBluegrassSituation.com. Every Tuesday for the next five weeks, one artist performing at this year's 2015 LA Bluegrass Situation festival at the Greek Theater on October 3 will be featured. The first of the sessions released today features Grammy-nominated bluegrass outfit Punch Brothers, performing on the roof of the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood before their sold out show in April.
If your day is missing some gorgeous guitar work, with lovely tone and virtuosic dexterity, you’ve come to the right place. Today we’re premiering “Stone Cross” by Julian Lage and Chris Edridge from their new album Avalon, release October 7.
Punch Brothers are not a bluegrass band. While you might be fooled into thinking otherwise by their traditional instrumentation and blinding picking chops, a quick listen will prove they are a highly evolved mutation of Bill Monroe and His Bluegrass Boys. Led by mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile, the group takes influences ranging from Radiohead to Bach to Earl Scruggs and combines them into a strikingly unique brand of acoustic music.
