To fans of classic rock and arena rock, it just wouldn’t be summer without the music of Styx. For more than 40 years the band, whose hits include “Blue Collar Man (Long Nights),” “Renegade,” "Too Much Time on My Hands” and “Come Sail Away,” has been delivering the goods the only way it knows how: through infectious live performances.
Together with a new band dedicated to preserving the legacy of his old one, DeYoung’s new DVD/Blu-ray package, Dennis DeYoung and the Music of Styx: Live In Los Angeles, quickly dispels any notion that he wasn’t a "rock guy" in Styx.
Legendary groups Foreigner and Styx will release The Soundtrack of Summer on May 6 to coincide with their tour of the same name. The tour also features very special guest Don Felder, former guitarist of The Eagles. The album, which features 16 classics by both bands, will be available exclusively at Walmart. The Soundtrack of Summer package includes Foreigner hits “Cold As Ice,” “Juke Box Hero” and “I Want To Know What Love Is,” and Styx hits “The Grand Illusion,” “Blue Collar Man” and “Renegade.”
Styx's new DVD/Blu-ray, Styx: Grand Illusion/Pieces of Eight — Live, captures the band performing their two classic multi-platinum '70s albums live in their entirety for the very first time. Filmed at the historic Orpheum Theater in Memphis, these albums helped establish Styx as a global phenomenon and defined their sound for a generation of fans.
Styx, REO Speedwagon and Ted Nugent are teaming up again for another round of "Midwest Rock ‘n Roll Express" Tour shows starting April 18 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The trek will conclude May 19 in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania.
In one of the better classic guitar-rock packages you're going to see all summer, Ted Nugent, REO Speedwagon and Styx are teaming up for what they're calling 'The Midwest Rock 'N' Roll Express' Tour. Get all the dates below.
Will Evankovich’s resume is a 25-year musical encyclopedia encompassing his skills as a songwriter, producer, arranger, singer, performer and multi-instrumentalist. Today, Styx released a new live DVD, Styx: The Grand Illusion/Pieces Of Eight Live via Eagle Rock Entertainment. You can catch a preview of the performance by watching our exclusive video presentation of "Fooling Yourself" below. The performance was recorded November 9, 2010, at the Orpheum Theater in Memphis on a tour that saw the band -- Tommy Shaw, James “JY” Young, Chuck Panozzo, Lawrence Gowan, Ricky Phillips and Todd Sucherman -- perform both these albums in their entirety for the first time.
When Ricky Phillips signed on as bass player for classic rock band Styx, he also signed on to the responsibilities of working with caliber musicians and upholding musical standards set not only within the band, but by their generations of fans. Phillips agrees that it was challenging, but he certainly had — and has — the chops and resume to live up to expectations.
