Contest en D’Angelico and Will Dailey Team Up for an Acoustic Guitar and Music Giveaway
This month we’re sharing something really fun.

It’s a kickin’ contest that brings you both an instrument and some musical inspiration.

We’re giving away this wonderful, brand new D’Angelico acoustic guitar, the Lexington SD300 in Cherry Sunburst. Plus some killer music by award-winning artist Will Dailey performed on a D’Angelico acoustic as well!!

About the D’Angelico Lexington SD300

In the early 1900s, the word ‘dreadnought’ referred to a massive battleship. Well, here’s D’Angelico’s interpretation!

A booming non-cutaway dreadnought, the Lexington (SD-300) offers a powerful low-end so resonant that playing lush, full chords may very well become addictive.

A solid Sitka spruce top meets a sapele back and sides to create the Lexington’s subtle elegance, complemented by a tortoise pickguard. The slim, mahogany neck makes for wonderful playability. Though capable of great projection, the Lexington’s high-end is uncompromised by its rich low-end, producing a consistently balanced sound and making it an excellent choice for a great variety of players. Dailey’s latest release, National Throat, debuted in the top 20 in the Billboard Heatseekers chart, is winner of a Boston Music Award for Album of the Year and Dailey himself was awarded this year’s Artist of the Year.

In preparation for a special bonus release of a deluxe version of that excellent album, Dailey recorded several songs using a hot-off-the-presses D’Angelico acoustic.

The Deluxe version due out March 24th will include all the songs from National Throat and 6 bonus tracks, “Stand Where I Can See You” (Live), “Why Do I” (Live), the full studio of “Sunken Ship,” a demo of “Higher Education,” “$300 Dollar Man,” (written in a reaction to being a part of Farm Aid), and a cover of Arcade Fire’s “Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)."

We’ll be giving away a few copies of National Throat on CD and Vinyl as well digital downloads of the Deluxe version in addition to this fabulous guitar! The warm-sounding 000 (RO-10) has a 1-3/4” bone nut and 24.9” scale, so it's perfect for fingerstyle guitarists looking for rounded tone across all strings.

The 10 Series Single 0 (RP-10) is a great-sounding small body based on a traditional design with a 1-3/4” bone nut and a 25.4” dreadnought scale length for extra projection. For players looking for a heavy dose of vintage vibe, the 12-fret 000 (ROS-10) has a 25.4” scale and a 1-13/16” bone nut, perfect for fingerpicking or strumming and with plenty of warm sustain.

Each 10 Series guitar is crafted with a solid Sitka spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides. Descending-size fretboard dots and tortoise binding give them distinctly vintage and tasteful styling. They deliver the classic sound and historic design we've built our name on.

See the whole line of Recording King guitars and banjos at .

Contest Recording King News Wed, 14 May 2014 18:20:29 +0000 Guitar World Staff Epiphone Announces March Bluegrass Giveaway: Win a Guitar, Dobro, Mandolin and Banjo
Epiphone continues its 2014 monthly giveaways with an unprecedented opportunity for fans to take home everything they need to start an entire bluegrass band.

Epiphone fans can enter to win the Bluegrass Band Package Giveaway where one lucky winner in the U.S., Canada and UK/Europe will take home four of Epiphone’s premier bluegrass instruments—the Masterbilt DR-500MCE acoustic/electric guitar, the MB-200 Banjo, the MM-30S Mandolin and the Dobro Hound Dog Deluxe Round Neck, most recently featured in concert by Gary Clark Jr.

“Epiphone has been refining acoustic instruments for over 140 years and the Bluegrass Collection instruments are absolutely classic,” said Epiphone President Jim Rosenberg. “We’re thrilled that the winners of our March giveaway will have everything they need to start the next great acoustic band!”

The instruments featured in the Bluegrass Band Package Giveaway are all drawn from Epiphone’s premier Bluegrass Collection, made from timeless designs that have inspired the premier acoustic performers of yesterday and today.

Masterbilt DR-500MCE Guitar:

The original Masterbilt line of acoustic guitars was Epiphone's pride and joy in the 1930s. And it still is today. The DR-500MCE is the ultimate rhythm guitar for driving acoustic styles and features a solid Sitka Spruce top, hand-scalloped Sitka Spruce braces, and mahogany kerfing with a Rosewood bridge and bone saddle.

The DR-500MCE's modern cutaway is a nod to the second generation of guitar wizards like Doc Watson, Tony Rice and David Grier who have brought a dazzling new vocabulary to bluegrass and folk music.

While the DR-500MCE sounds great "unplugged," it really comes alive when plugged-in thanks to the new eSonic2™ preamp system and the under saddle NanoFlex low-impedance pickup. The new eSonic2 preamp, made in cooperation with Shadow Germany, features a built-in, easy-to-use tuner that when engaged, automatically mutes the guitar’s input with no "popping" noise, making it a perfect choice for stage use.

Other controls on this state-of-the-art preamp include Master Volume, NanoFlex Tone, NanoMag Tone, stereo blend, low battery indicator, and a phase switch to help eliminate unwanted feedback.

Complementing the NanoFlex is the revolutionary NanoMag pickup mounted at the end of the fingerboard. Exclusively from Shadow, the NanoMag features three Samarian-Cobalt magnets and an integrated active circuit to capture all the highs and lows, including a wide range of harmonics. With your choice of either 1/4" mono output that blends both pickups or a 1/4" stereo output splitting the two pickups, you have incredible flexibility and opportunities to create the perfect acoustic tone live.

MM-30S Mandolin:

The MM-30S was thought of as a radical new design of the mandolin in the early 20th century. But for Epiphone founder Epi Stathopoulo, “radical” and “new” was exactly the direction that he wanted to take the family business. Epiphone’s MM-30S “A”-style mandolin is renowned for its sweet, balanced tone. Easy to play, the MM-30S is not as “sharp” or “aggressive” as some bluegrass mandolins and is a perfect complement to singers and for rhythm. Much like a great acoustic guitar, the MM-30S has a full range—ringing highs and rounded lows—that make it ideal for “going natural” on stage and using just a mic for amplification.

Dobro Hound Dog Deluxe Round Neck:

The Dobro Hound Dog Deluxe Round Neck resonator guitar is one of the iconic instruments for bluegrass and traditional American music styles. It features a Laminated Flame maple top and body with back binding, a Mahogany neck, and a Fishman Resonator pickup. And in the hands of Gary Clark Jr. (See the video below), the Dobro takes on a whole new dimension.

Epiphone MB-200 Banjo:

The Epiphone MB-200 Banjo can perhaps claim the distinction as being the oldest instrument in the Epiphone line. Featuring a classic shaped mahogany neck and body with an industry standard Remo head, the 26.25" scale neck has traditional pearloid inlay. The MB-200 projects the full, classic cutting tone that Epiphone banjos are known for.

Visit and enter to win the Bluegrass Band Package today! He even got Jeff Loomis' opinion while he was making up his mind.

And so, the winner is ... 27-year-old Joshua Kraft of California! "I have to pick Mr. Bandaid," Becker said, adding that Kraft's "attitude" is what gave him the final edge.

Check out Kraft's winning video below — and start getting ready for our next transcription challenge, which we'll be announcing this week! Thank you to everyone who entered the challenge!

<fieldset class="fieldgroup group-additional-content"><legend>Additional Content</legend>

Related Artist:

Jason Becker

</fieldset> Carvin Contest Jason Becker Joshua Kraft July 2013 Transcription Challenge Videos News Magazine Tue, 02 Jul 2013 18:18:19 +0000 Guitar World Staff Enter to Win Free Tuition to 2013 Guitar Workshop Plus Program
Here’s a great offer for Guitar World readers from Guitar Workshop Plus:

Enter now to win free tuition to this summer's Guitar Workshop Plus program!
